Come to think of it I miss the whole lot of the old SpecOps site from a few years back...

Yeah, back then, it was more of an online community with a little store any either own unique products... Now it's it's kinda turned into a product store with a community on the side.

Q - Who ran & paid for that community?
A - A paintball shop

Times have changed. Economy is a big reason. SpecOps actually needs to make money now :P

And I have no problem with that, but I'd rather a site were the main page is the community page, not the store. Facebook, twitter, diggit... these sites make plenty of money with ad sales alone, and are still able to keep their communities the focus of their site. Facebook was recently declared the most visited site on the web. Websites the world over who make their most money in retail (sites like homestarunner.com and CAL-online.com) have no problem keeping the main focus on the site, with the store on the side.

I'm happy for your store, but this site went from a Community site with a store to a retail site with a forum, in a time when community sites are blowing up BIG, and retail sites (such as amazon and ebay) are turning to online communities to increase their customer base and selling potential.

Just my 2 cents...

Dude. You have to remember this is paintball. Not nearly as many people play paintball then people who like to visit social networks... aka Facebook.

i understand exactly what EMT is saying. this is precisely why you see people advertise stuff in the lounge, and why the posts for the lounge and lounge type threads have the most post counts in them. because at its core, if this small community doesn't maintain some form of social center, it too would cease to exist. pbn is huge, take a look at what gets the most posts over there . its just business. without some form of social networking, you won't make any money. the trick is to disguise it so that you don't make it sound like the whole reason you have a site is to market and sell your goods. you try to maintain a feel good community and enlist those that feel the same way and are willing to enforce that ( staff ) ... you may or may not provide them with perks for this service, but even in that you have a micro community within the macro one with an agenda.

i am not saying that this is bad thing, it just is what it is .... a hard business reality, ... survival in the business world in the face of a dire economy

now with that being said, i think spec ops does a great job of trying to have fun on here to attract more members and keep its current members involved, ... like with forum prez elections, sofa awards, a chat room .... kudos to them ... they also have some highly seasoned and helpful members and staff that can assist with about any paintball question ... slink, puz, maj tom, lego ... but at the root of a forum is costs .... the bottom line .. nothing is free

Is there any chance it will be available for download when it comes out, so we never have to worry about this kind of thing again? I know boatloads of people who need to watch this guide!
