I have cut down tips on a few barrel kits now.

No biggie. Mark the location you want cut and follow the lne with the saw off your choice. I have used hacksaws, jigsaws and reciprocating saws. The jig was the easiest with a fresh blade.

After the cut I use a small carpenters square and a belt sander to make the end nice and square. Then I debur the outside and inside edges with a neddle file.
I have in the past also simply used a millbastard file to do all the finish work, but the belt sander was far faster.

Finish off the process with some emery cloth and I use sharpie to cover the bright aluminum.

Easy stuf...takes all of about 20 minutes.

Sounds good to me. Good call on the sharpie! Does that cover well?

It covers pretty good, but is very temporary. Comes off with a good solid wipe of fabric.

Got an idea for yall, and it workes for me. CPVC( not the same as PVC, just clearing up). 3/4" CPVC has a .68cal internal diameter. Yah is sound cheap, but you'll be singing a different tune after you try this.

My brother had a Mr1 Spyder, and he made himself a 4" barrel( total length 5 1/4"), and I kid you not the thing hits 300 fps NO problem( and slower too), and he has a basket ball spread at 50yards with the thing.

All he did was cut the CPVC to the proper length, sand down just enough till it could be screwed into the marker, and tapered the inside of the barrel( on the marker end) so the balls would not catch any edges. A bit of black paint and its done.

Will post pics soon, maybe a walk-through on CPVC barrels.

OK ok, I will. This week is kinda slow, so hoping I'll get time off this weekend to do some pics( maybe sooner).

The aluminum is so soft I used the corner of a pair of pliers like a knife and just peeled the burrs out. Did the same on the outside.

Looks awesome! Looks like the plyers de-burring worked pretty well too. You should GTA weld an RIS straight to the body of the gun, then get a composite foregrip for it. That's just my style though haha! I already saw you're going with a retro wood motif, I wouldn't mind seeing a compact M14 come out of it...

Oh sorry... Gas Tungsten Arc welding, its the kind you see them using on those car/motorcycle building tv shows. It's really precise so good for small stuff like paintball guns.

RIS stands for rail interface system, just the rails on the gun...

Oh, I see! Does that work with aluminum? Anyway I have ZERO welding experience, and thus no skill. Plus I don't have any equipment, nor know anyone with such. Other than that, great suggestion!! :P Rails would be AMAZING though.

Yeah, it works with anything, you just gotta have the right filler metal. I have experience and no equipment haha! Guess I won't be welding together an RIS either!

So do you plan to sharpie your shiny bits or something else? I think I'll just spray paint. On the other hand, I wouldn't mind trying some powdercoating. I've heard its not all that difficult, and you can use your oven to heat it.

I'm not to worried about them actually. The A-5 barrel is much thinner walled than the 98 so there won't be that much shiny by comparison. Plus the stubnose is for close quarters where camoflage isn't nearly as important. Up that close you're going to be noticed wether you're shiny or blacked out, close quarters is all about speed and manuverability so I think I'm just going to leave the cut as is...

Good point. Making me think.

I wonder what else I could pull off to mod this thing without spending money....

I need to get ahold of my brother and get that chunk of walnut and get going on the foregrip. Of course, I'm gonna need help with the dato work... So much to do, so little time. Stupid dayjob... :dodgy: :D
