98cs are pretty loud but performance wise it has what it takes to do the job well (in my opinion at least)

Its about, as quiet as a howitzer. nododgy.... But if you're looking for a sniper marker, look into an ion. Just my 2 cents.

I own a 98, and I never found them to be insanely loud, but as compared to my friends A-5, mine is much quieter

Well honestly it depends on the rest of your setup...A 98 Custom with the stock barrel and C02 is one of the loudest setups in the world...Then on the other hand a 98 Custom with a Stiffi and Compressed Air is a very quite setup...

I have a 98c. I once tried to do all those mods (well the cheap ones anyway) to make it quiet. To me it was a waste of time. Even though I made it significantly quieter than the stock form, it still wasn't worth all the trouble to make it quiet enough to shoot and not be easily heard.

I found out A couple things that did wonders in keeping my 98c pro quite quiet.
I put tape on the inside of the hopper.. dont know what this did but it made the noise of the balls less..
I got new o-rings. Fresh o-rings help make it slide more. that means less noise.

I oiled the hell out of the hammer.. this way it works much better and it glides more the slams
And I polished the insides.. I guess it made it quiter. lol
I got a smart parts linear barrel....Yes it does work phenominaly well.
I got an expainsoin chamber.. yes it does work and it works very well..
I want to switch to HPA or compressed air.. but I only play enough for it to count as recreational so I like the money savings :P

Still if you get Compressed Air then you can play all year round without C02 freezing problems...

In my opinion its not worht it to try to make the maker quiet- it just causes a bunch of gunk to get in your marker as the different materials break down. Try making your marker very loud and just reposition after every shot, it will trick your oppononent into thinking you're in the old location not the new one. Either that or it will be so loud it will confuse them. Just my hypothesis-I'm not gonna start trying to make my gun loud until I get a unported brass barrel (nickel dust), and any other performance upgrades.

My 98C isn't extremely loud but it is definately not the best for quietly picking off your opponents one by one undetected. That is why my first shot must count.

honestly, the work it takes to make a 98c quiet isn't worth the time and aggravation. you'd be better off buying a different marker, a la autococker or automag, both of which are significantly quieter. also, they're generally cheaper than a tac-1, you can always find a good cocker or mag used.

the 98c is loud with the stocl barrel, but if you put maybe a 14 or 16 inch on it would be quiter. plus it makes up for being loud for the consinsity.

My 98 is kinda loud. For the money, it does everything a person could want. If a sniper were to simply take 1-2 shots, the sound of the marker would not make a huge difference.
