Hey guys I'm in the process of convincing my folks to get me a Forge MOLLE Vest for my birthday in March and so I was just wondering how most people like to set up their pods, etc. on their vests.

I've used a GxG belt in a couple games so I gotta say having a vertical tank (particularly steel) kind of sucks to say the least :P I did, however, like that my ammo pods were horizontal.

I will probably end up trying vertical ammo pods when I get the vest, but to me it seems like it would be more awkward to take out/put back in (perhaps practice helps?). I was wondering if anyone knows how large the BT Horizontal MOLLE plate is if I wanted to put it on my vest (I don't want it too large, as I will be buying the horizontal tank holder and that would force me to put it on vertically if it was too large).

What else do you put on your vests regularly (grenade pouches, etc.)? Do you use a leg holster for a sidearm?

Finally, do you guys prefer the "webbing" style light harness, a full vest, etc?

How many pods do you carry per game and what size of pod?

What accessories do you bring out with you?

Are you going remote?

Any pistols?

Are you talking about a full MOLLE back?

If so, you should be able to fit both the horizontal pods and the tank if you run the tank above the pods. And for what you may need as a vest is entirely different than me. I'm happy with pods, tank, and a pouch for tossing my barrel cover in. I never carry grenades, so that's non-issue for me. I use a leg holster for a Tiberius 8, though >95% of the time if I have my T8 in a game, it's my primary marker.

The real question is -- What do you want to carry in a game? Not just how much you want on your person, but what do you want to have to deal with under adverse (hot) conditions.

Unless you're playing long scenarios I'd suggest a cheap pod pack.

I use an airthru dogleg stock, so yes I use a remote - I have no money for pistols or other accesories as of yet.
Right now I only have one pod (160 rd Dye Locklid) and I like it well enough.
In a 1 hour section of a scenario game I've only needed more than the one pod once, and I borrowed someone else's (and paid them back).

I'm thinking of putting 4 on my vest, in case of longer scenario games.

I'm using a 48/3000 tank.

Yeah, I'm talking about a full MOLLE back...but on the SpecOps site I only saw vertical pod packs, so I figured I would need the BT Horizontal Plate if I wanted to make them horizontal like the belt I used.

I dunno much about the Forge. I do have a Scout, and I LOVE it.

But I had to disagree with Mephisto. I use my vest at our outlaw games and I find it useful like crazy. We play 10-20 minute games and then hike back to the trucks and re-load. Ends up being more walking than playing. So we've started carrying extra paint out to the field and going back less often. With my vest I can carry the extra paint, as well as tools and cleaning supplies, without worrying about accidentally leaving my stuff on-field. I also can fill my water bladder with ice and water, and it keeps me cool the whole day. That alone makes it worthwhile!

My 2 cents.

Spec Ops has made horizontal holders by request. Ask them.

By accessories I carry squeegee, allan key and paper towel. Many carry more than that including water bladder.

For now let's kick this over to Soft Goods Discussions where it belongs.

Apologies :D
Do you think I should? I figured I'd give vertical a try since it seems to be the most widely used, since I can always add that plate to make them horizontal. That way I can change it up depending on my preferred configuration.
Then again, I could always get the horizontal plate and make my "horizontal holders" vertical again, lol :P

I personally don't like horizontal holders.

I often carry 4 pods. Horizontal holders stick them out too much.

well i have tried thinking hard on this one too..

i almost bought the rap4 molle getup for $130.. then add pistol pouch, name tag and shipping ... not much cheaper than the specops....

so i got most of the monies... just waiting for a few more to come in soon.. then im getting a specops...

i have been having back problems.. so im figuring a vest to keep everything tight will be nice..
i have a 45/45 and 88/45 so can run the 88 on my back (horizontal) and run the 45 without the vest and use my dye 4+1 camo harness...

but when i use the vest.... i want everything from minimal to maximum..

so im getting...

vest
pistol pouch front left
2 pod front left when pistol pouch not needed and more paint is
2 pod front right
3 2+1 pod on back
horizontal tank holder on back
shotgun pouch front
id pouch front

with that I can run anything from minimal to helluva getup....

i want to get something that is going to last a LONG TIME...

Fair enough
How about actually taking the pods out/putting them back in...do you just get used to it vertically (still seems awkward to me, but again, never actually had them on my back that way so I'd have to try it out)?

I'd be worried about pulling the tab down and dropping the pod

When somebody is shooting at you it becomes fairly easy to reload.

I used to use a horizontal pod configuration and thought that vertical would be awkward or uncomfortable. That was years and years ago. I'm so used to a vertical set-up that I find it difficult to imagine going back to horizontal.

When all is said and done though, we can make you whatever you prefer. I can even make them with an addition that will allow you to switch them back and forth.
