The fact he was a Marine definitely created the punishment.
Would I still be pissed if the victim wasn't a Marine? Definitely. I've had to deal with Cops doing whatever they wanted because they could before, so stuff like this really grinds my gears.

Thing is, if he wasn't a Marine, would it have been news?

Thank you Homer. :(

I wonder if anyone's reaction in here would be different if the victim wasn't a marine...

I mean, it doesn't sound like he shot and killed him because he was a marine... but just a person that was shot and killed and happened to be a marine..

None the less it's a tragedy but it doesn't sound like in any way shape or form that this was the cause because he was a marine..

Would be of the same level. The fact that he was a Marine pisses me off in a different way than if it were a civilian, but even if we remove that, a cop got plowed while carrying and shot someone because his testosterone thought that was the best way to thump his penis at the bar. That is the cube of FRAGed up.

My reaction was based on the location of the shooting being a "gun free zone"...

Therefore my reaction is independent of color, creed, gender, or occupation...

it's really a bummer to hear about people killing us especially in our own country and it happens way to often. I'm not saying that it's way different than a civilian being murdered but it's definetly not the same if that makes any sense. And it really is a fudged up arrangement for that cop, or ex cop. Drunken FRAGups usually ruin alot of peoples lives

Damn the guy was a fallujah vet... FRAG that cop

Self-defense is one shot in the shoulder. If he was shot thirteen times, the magazine couldn't have held much more, or anymore as far as I know, so therefore he was at close enough range for a drunk cop to hit him with every single round. That also means the guy would hit the ground before all the shots were fired, and as many people know, it goes from self-defense to assault as soon as the other person hits the ground or is unable to defend himself. In this case it went from self-defense to execution after the first shot. The Marines can call in more favors than cops can though. :P Don't worry, he'll rot.

Much as I hope this drunk cop (hopefully EX-cop) gets what's coming to him, and I have zero support for him, there are some disagreements. Response in bold.

Shoot to wound is nothing short of a lawsuit. Bad, bad policy.

If he was shot thirteen times, the magazine couldn't have held much more, or anymore as far as I know, so therefore he was at close enough range for a drunk cop to hit him with every single round.

Most shootings in the real world, both criminal and self-defense, happen at ten feet or less. That shouldn't be too surprising. Given it was his "service weapon" I'm guessing a Glock 22 or Glock 17, in which case it'd be 15 round and 17 round capacity, respectively.

The 13 times doesn't bother me at all. Being drunk while carrying a duty gun and shooting an unarmed man bothers me. Trying to use that police influence to get out of rightful consequences bothers me further.

That also means the guy would hit the ground before all the shots were fired,Wrong, plain flat wrong. If his shots didn't penetrate organs (or barely did), it would take time for the guy's body to start to shut down (fall over). You bring down an assailant with a gun either by blood loss or internal organ damage.

Wow... that story is biased. I cant believe any of it until the other side comes out. Hell for all we know the guy that was shot was the one that was drunk. And this was outside of a bar, perfectly legal to carry I assume. A drunk man with adrenaline pumping through him could easily take more than a few shots to bring down (referring to tyrone). Not that im saying it was the right thing to do, but if you pull your CCW or CW its shoot to kill, assuming its justified.

Edit: Read the other link. Cleared some things up.

Only 6 shots hit out of 13. I'm assuming panic fire. The context off the shooting is the hang up. It all sounds bad though for the officer.

As a general rule, most police department firearm policies prohibit...
  • Warning shots.
  • Shooting suspects to end pursuits.
  • Shooting suspects just to disarm them.
  • Use of deadly force unless life is threatened or serious bodily harm is imminent.
  • Consumption of alcohol when carrying service weapon.
  • Use of any more force than is necessary to eliminate or mitigate a threat.
This officer followed the Marine outside, not because the Marine was a threat to anyone, but because the Marine spanked the officer's prospective date. The officer didn't empty his service weapon into the Marine because he was defending his life or anyone else's, but either his or his date's misguided honor in a fit of drunken rage. Subtract Police Officer and Marine from the equation, and you have a situation that isn't really very unusual at all when you mix alcohol, lust, jealousy, and guns...it's human nature under the influence of alcohol, impaired judgment, and aggressive behavior. Any other story is BS...the cop, the Marine's family, and the City of Baltimore all know it...some will attempt to deny it, but that won't change the truth.

People go to bars looking for love, trouble, to drown their troubles, or for whatever they call a good time...looks like these people settled for one out of four.
