Ok everybody, this thread is in honor of Stunt's necroposting awesomeness, and his Obamacare thread.

The question is: will Obama win the next election?

The question is NOT: SHOULD Obama win?

If you feel the need to answer question #2, you may do so after answering question #1. :D

No way man. Factors are different this time. If he runs again, he will be running with everything that's his fault aswell. Last election everything was Bushes fault.

It's a toss-up. People are pissed at his wimpfooting, but at the same time, I see his competition, and it's pretty weak. And can you imagine the debates?

What about the budget deficit?

"I killed Osama."

But the high unemployment rate . . .

"And the dead Osama."

The economy is crap.

"Stop trying to change the subject. And the subject is one dead terrorist. Osama to be precise."

I think its hard to say. PW is right about the competition, and I think ppl are pissed off at all the stupidity that is going on right now. The question is, which party will bear the brunt of the blame for it? I mean we lost our AAA rating from S&P (purely political gaming on their part, I think), but who will people say is responsible? Obama for not kicking congress in the butt hard enough? Teaparty Republicans for childishly saying NO to EVERYTHING? That goes for the economy, etc.

I think two things Obama has going for him are 1) Osama, as you mentioned, but also 2) the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan winding down. If he can get our presence in those conflicts reduced and demonstrate real progress there, he might have something going for him.

Personally, I think the best way Obama could win votes is by going hard after jobs. If he can either lower the unemployment rate, or look like the guy fighting to get it down while the opposition stalls, he could get some serious backing. The whole economy thing is now falling because despite all the changes and growth, no one has figured out how to get people back to work. Solve that one, and you'll get elected. Same is true for republican opposition. If they wanna get votes, all they gotta do is sell the jobs position. I think that is the number one thing on people's minds. Either getting a job, or keeping their job.

honestly, basing a re-election strategy on the Osama hunt is doomed to fail. Hooray, he's dead. But when's the last time you heard anything about it on TV? All that's on TV right now is the National Deficit/Debt, unemployment, ect. Winding down in Iraq yes, Afghanistan: No. I'm over in Afghanistan right now, and I've heard no word coming down the pipe as far as any kind of drawdown. And WTF is up with going into Libya? The US is NOT the spear-head for every UN/NATO mission, let another country step in, we can't afford this crap anymore.

To answer the question: Will Obama win? No. Well, I won't vote for him at any rate.

I don't really see how he can win again, at least from my perspective his promise of change didn't change our country much...at least not in a good direction.

I think he will....its pretty much his election to lose.

The GOP is moving its candidates so far to the right that they are starting to frighten many moderate/independent voters....voters who may not like Obama or his policies, but find the alternative even less appealing. Bachman & Perry are going to hand the Dems another 4 years in the White House on a silver platter.

For the record - I voted for McCain last time, but I may be forced to go with Obama this time if the GOP nominates anyone other than Romney.

@ Eagle:

1) Thanks very much. I appreciate you going over there so I can sit here and debate.

2) I realize that a drawdown may not be currently underway in Afghanistan...but there COULD be. I didn't mean to say that it was already happening in both places. We know Iraq is, but Afghanistan could be. I just meant that if he can put the end of both wars in the sight of the American public, he can use that as a lever in his campaign. I don't know very many people who still want you all to be there. I think most people are ready for our guys to come home. We're tired of watching flag-covered caskets coming back from a place that doesn't seem to appreciate the sacrifice. Tired of paying the bills to sustain military effort, but also to prop up dysfunctional and corrupt governments who fight and bicker as much as our own, but also use bombs to emphasize their points.
