I am a noob at computers and what not so I come to you divine folk to help me out.

On saturday I was trying to make a CD out of a playlist I have. I put in the cd and pressed the burn button and I got a notice on Itunes that "no supported disc burners found" then i switched my play list to windows media player and it said it could not detect a burner. I am running windows vista and I am wondering how to get it running again.

well, some drives dont have a cd burner... otherwise, you may need to go on your computers help site (aka hp, dell) and redowload the driver. Also, rebooting never hurts

You are sure that you have a CD-burner, correct? Look at the plastic covering of the drive. Does it say CD-RW on it? If it doesn't than you don't actually have a CD burner. Otherwise, try re-booting or re-downloading the drivers, as said above. Call the customer service for whatever manufacturer you have and talk to them. They should be able to guide you through the process.

Did you just upgrade to a new service pack? When my bro went from like 2 to 3, it completely killed his cd drives. Not just the burning function, i mean they weren't even there anymore. Also, mind you this is a surprise by now, but still, not all CD drives have burning abilities. Could you burn before? Was that before you got Vista but on the same Comp? If so, it may be like my bros prob, which means redownloading drivers, possible the service pack itself in some cases.

I've never even been able to get itunes to burn a disc...and I don't think I'd even want to try media player. I'd recommend looking at a third party burning application. Look at Nero or Roxy. I think you can get some free ones at download.com if you search for them.

Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available."

Delete it from the Device Manager and allow it to redetect.

If you uninstall a driver then after restarting it should reinstall it once it gets booted up.
