I would like to know which are more popular in the sniper world, Red Dot sights/scopes (if scopes are even effective) or laser pointers. I personally choose laser pointer, only because they're lower profile.

I have used both, and the red dot sight has the least amount of draw backs and is more useful.

There is one huge problem with using a laser, that is the accidental shining it into the eyes problem. I know for a fact that there are a lot of fields that do not allow lasers for this very reason.

In addition to the safety aspect, the red-dot is more useful for paintball.

Often I want to aim just to the side of a bunker that an enemy is in.
With a pointer, you might have problems finding that 'spot' depending on what the background is. This is not an issue with a red-dot.

Work hard, play hard.. In that order.

I like iron sights personally, but in the absence of them I would definitely take a red dot. It's fast, inexpensive, safe, effective, and simple (usually).

At one time I personally used a 3-9x40 scope w/ the aid of a laser w/ a pressure switch. The laser was setup for impact of the paintball at 80ft or approx. 25 meters on a windless day. The scope was used to help see things more clearly, such as the laser's dot. The scope was never adjusted(dialed in) to any paticular range. Sadly I did away with that setup a long time ago as the scope had almost no eye relief so it was hard to use with goggles. The laser quit working long ago and the scope is on a .22 that's locked in a gun safe that we lost the keys to.

Red dot sight

Put the dot where you want the paintball to go. They are pretty easy to do holdovers with as well. The shooter just has to put the dot a couple feet or whatever over the target.

Don't go with a laser pointer. They are not allowed at most fields and they can be kinda hard to see during the day.

lasers give your position and warn everyone that you're aiming at them (even with a momentary pressure switch) .. the opfor can see your bright red laser on your gun shining at them, as well as the laser dot on themselves and the bush around them.

unless of course it's sunny out, then nobody can see the laser, including you .. it's useless aswell a paintball arcs and a laser is straight.. kinda pointless again ... just use a red dot.. you can see the red dot, they can't.

Well...red dots are probably better since there's a good chance your field won't allow lasers, and that they don't really work all that well in daytime.

I bought a laser and brought it to my field when I was a nube. Field owner says I can not use because of insurance and eye issues.

Red dot is way to go

:P Ya know what, this is kinda weird. This topic was in with the new posts when I logged on, but now it looks like we are the only ones who posted on it recently. Very strange. Oh well, at least we agree, red dots are good.

that happens whenever someone votes in a topic, it automatically bumps it to the top...i tried to talk ten into removing that feature, so it only bumps when actually posted in...but was told no.

i would rather get a red dot then attempt to use a laser in outdoor woodsball...

although at the moment. i use neither.. shoot once, adjust accordingly..
