Im pretty sure everyone is taking this woodsball thing far to serious. The woods just happen to be where we play because there is no where else to go. The underlying passion comes from the freedom of professional fields and their gestapo rules. And, of course, from all the friendly antics as well. As the man said, "Over 90% of players play paintball in the woods", so its not like any of us are special. The only reason why speedball is in the limelight is because of the political nature of speedball. Compared to playing in the woods, speedball is a gold mine because of all the money sunk into the high tech equipment and cases of rounds shot each game. And its for that reason why sponsors make sure speedball is on tv and played at all fields. So stop trying to turn "woodsball" into the rebellion against the speedball empire because its all a matter of people just trying to make a buck.

Sorry, but I'm gonna rally against the practice of the 10% controlling the other 90% wherever it may be, and whatever guise it happens to wear. Intellectually at least, if not physically. Knowlege and its proper application is far deadlier than the greatest of man's weapons. ;)

(sorry all my sociology classes are coming back and I've eaten too much sugar this morning :D )

Actually, I play speedball every now and then. (Hey, when you ref for speedball you have to play sometime. <_<) I honestly prefer playing in the woods rather than playing on a field with inflated bunkers. You have so much more room (99% of the time) to move around and can play for a long time. I'd personally rather be playing paintball for 3hrs in one stretch then playing several 5 minute games, and in a place where there is natural bunkers that need to altercation. So its not that I am taking the whole Woodsball against Speedball thing seriously, its just that I prefer to play woods a lot more than speed.

I think my point is missed. There is no such thing as "speedball controlling woodsball". Simply put, speedball attracts all the money so that is where all the attentions goes. Im sure the industry is ecstatic that people love to play in the woods (their own private property mind you) but as long as people are blowing cases of paint per game for speedball, dont expect woodsball to take center stage any time soon. Im sure the people who dont realize this feel oppressed since woodsball doesnt get as much attention. And theres nothing wrong with posting your feelings online, just as long as you realize the subtext.

Speedballers are what is going to turn people from the sport. With Speedball, the fastest gun wins. That is why ESPN wouldn't show paintball in the early editions of the X games. I do not know if they are showing it now, nor do i care. We(Team ColdSmoke) took photo's as embedded jounalists for a few games, and those shots were better than any speedball video i have seen. On a personal note:
What i would like to see, I was at CPX and saw a guy with a camera mounted on the end of his barrel and one on his mask. That must be some awsome footage. Show the Team Woodsball Challange either on film or tv or DVD. That is just me talking though.

So stop trying to turn "woodsball" into the rebellion against the speedball empire because its all a matter of people just trying to make a buck.

Let me relate a story here.

Last year I was playing at a BYOP field outside of Chicago. (Hint, it wasn't FRG, for the locals) I wore camo, because it was warmer than my jerseys. My Mag is all black. When we played in the speedball field, the ref looked me over, and said "You don't look that expirenced, you can go play with those guys over there. They might be able to give you a tip or two." 'those guys' were in purple jerseys, and I ended up running past them before the game was over.

The assumption was made that because I was in camo, I didn't know what I was doing.

Plus, look around. Outside of Spec Ops how many companies are trying to make gear to meet the needs of the people who like playing in the woods? Oh there's a few, AGD's Tac-1, WGP's tactical cocker, and a few others. But major companies want to force the game out of the woods to make more money. I don't mind if they want to play that way, but when you tell me to "Get out of the woods and get with the program", that bothers me. I don't tell them how to play their game, why tell me how I can play mine?

This is longer than I wanted it to be.

I'm kind of new to paintball (as of last year), but I never knew there was so much animosity between versions of the game. Personally, I can't see myself playing anything BUT woodsball. Speedball doesn't look all that fun in comparison. Kind of pathetic and amatuer-ish in my opinion, but whatever. To each his own.

Look at the video in THIS thread. This is the attitude that people are seeing in speedball more and more.
The average person watching this isn't going to care that woods ball is a more "relaxed" game. They're just going to think all paintballers have this bad attitude.

In 18 years of playing, I've seen a few hotheads yelling and arguing, but that's normal in any sport. I haven't seen anyone do anything like that in the woods.

With Tygers manifesto it allows everyone to know what woodsball is about. At no point does he say woodsball is better than speedball. He points out that it is different. Those of us that play want to win, but we don't use the "win at any cost" mentality that the majority of speedballers have.

Now "speedball controlling woodsball" may not be the best way to put it but it does make the point. If all we see on TV is speedball and everyone sees video like the one mentioned, how do you think people will react when you tell them you play paintball?
