Yeah, but how many people are going to carry liquid nitrogen to a field

I'm going to see this tomorrow at a scenario, because I see it every time.

A dude wearing more tactical gear than I ever wear, including on patrols in Iraq/Stan

I'd add to it and point out that he's more than likely also one of two things:

An overweight civilian that never even tried to enlist or

An overweight prior service who was entirely rear area and never left a FOB, or was out before 2001.

Because somewhere along the line mil-sim stopped being translated as "military simulation" and started being translated "how much worthless poo can you possibly cram onto your marker and person?"

Wait...you mean soldiers don't really wear 6 shemaghs, 4 leg holsters, a helmet, and have 4 different lights on their guns?
Crap...I should probably sell some of this stuff then. . .might be able to afford paint then.

Lol. I know you say that jokingly, the sad part is I know a guy like that. shemagh ( I use mine as a wipe rag now...), one drop leg holster for the Zeus he never uses and another for 3 pods, Green laser, Flashlight, ACOG with the piggyback reddot, and an IR laz. and a RAP4 M203 Simulator that didn't even look impressive, let alone shoot for anything.

Vest of course had about 4 pods, the rest of it was 'tactical' gear. Radios (2), Grenades (smoke, paint, and a "thumper" noise grenade), Hydro carrier (one of the condor ones that affix to MOLLE webbing), Zipcuffs, Electrical tape hanging off a carabiner off his shoulder, and a fold-out first-aid kit with things mostly useless for paintball but looked really cool (he actually got in trouble for that and had to remove it).

Wore the full Multicam BDUs in 90 degree heat with 100% humidity, Sweated like a pig most of the time, and is usually the first heat casualty at games. Ah well, he's still better than the 450lb 'sniper' in the ghillie and with the 24" barrel on his spyder.

What, you mean no one else carries it in their gearbag all the time, right next to all other essential things to bring to the field?

Oh man, I love those huge guys that have to string two ghillies together to fit in it, then lay in the short grass and somehow think they won't be seen.

Personally, I think that one of the stupidest things on the paintball field is carrying around a pistol "just in case". Who honestly drops their primary marker and whips out a pistol. Now using a pistol as their primary, or even a small pump and a pistol, is completely reasonable. I am talking about the guy with the 30lb a5 with a remote line, plus a pistol.

Actually, I've done that. Mostly because I always wanted to.
I had a Rap4 Compact (actually a decent pistol), and my big old A-5 SAW on a sling. During a scenario, we were making a push on an objective. A teammate and I are walking through some trees, blasting away to keep the few defenders left in their bunkers. I ran out of paint in my hopper (did still have some pods), but instead of reloading, I dropped my A5, pulled out the pistol, and ran around the cover, bunkering the final two defenders. It was very tactical looking  Yeah, I could have reloaded, but it was much more fun to pull the pistol.

If I do carry a pistol "just in case", it's only in scenarios, and only if someone's gun goes down when we really need them to have a gun. I probably only run it about 5% of the time, just because it slows me down.

Back when I was running with the long config SP-8, I used to borrow a pistol specifically for tight quarters- our field has a few multi-room buildings, and the 8 was just too long to manage in there. now though, with the timmy, i don't really need one, and even when i finish the F2000 I won't need one.

Besides, every pound on a drop leg equates to about five pounds on a vest. I'll skip it.

Wow, thats really insulting to alot of players here. Im one of them too. I use a moded A5, and I have a nice X7, (not both at once) either one uses a Remote line. And I wear a Tac8, ya know, "just in case". because Ive had my marker fail. Ive had paint fail, Ive had Air lines fail, and Ive even ran out of HPA during a fire-fight. And ya know what, I drew my pistol and kept playing, But if I had been narrow minded and not carried a pistol, I guess I could have walked off the field.

SO I guess thanks for classifying me as the stipidest thing youve ever seen. But then that would only be second to the people I mark out during a game. Cause if my and my gear is stupid, than the people I eliminate during a game have to be just dumb as a sack of wet hammers.

OH, and Im 270lbs, I wear multicam, A broadsword vest, combat boots, gloves and a drop pouch for my Tac8 mags when I fast reload. I use a 114ci 4500 tank on remote and my gear has a hydration bladder, a tactical light and a bore swab. I have a radio and heaset for team communication. Three spare mags for my tac8 (just in case) and 4-6 pods for my primary. Kneepads on occasion and a tactical helmet once in a great while. I like the look, I like the feel and I enjoy playing Paintball this way.

My Point here folks is, you really should watch how you judge people and what you say in public. Im a nice guy (generally) and Im out to have fun on MY dime. And enjoy some time MY way. I dont care if you show up in Neon clothing with a bright red gun, as long as you have fun, and are nice to people playing, and play fair. But What Im seeing above here is that some people here want to judge people on their definition of fun and equipment. So what if the guy is 500 pounds laying under 10 sqr yards of camo netting in the sand, and calling himself a sniper. So what. Mark him out and be done with it. He will learn. SO what if I wear ten tons of gear or carry a marker that is both ineffective and over priced. What really does that do to you? But when you openly critisize us on public forums, you breed intolerance and you propogate a cycle that will never end. You teach a younger generation that its ok to critisize and make fun of people different from themselves. And you drive a wedge into the relationships of paintballers everywhere. You increase already sensitive insecurities and worse yet, perhaps you drive off a player.

Really people? I mean really, is this who you are?

But now that Ive critisized you, youll get all defensive and tell me why Im wrong. Ah, got it, its only a one way fun fest.

Whoa, take a deep breath and calm down. I don't think that me saying a pistol is stupid will breed intolerance. This is just an open discussion, and I feel that pistols are useless. If you don't agree with me fine, but don't say that I am intolerant, and that I judge people. I simply think that pistols are an unnecessary thing that just adds weight.

I got a couple friends that bring pistols to the field as 'secondaries' and get incredible use out of them.

IMHO, a pistol can be unnecessary weight, but it can also be a lifesaver when something in your setup breaks down or if you want to go into a c.q.b. situation and don't want to use your obscenely long marker. A pistol can also be used if you loan your marker to someone else or you just want to challenge yourself or conserve paint. Pistols may be unnecessary to some, but to others it is an amazing tool that adds to that players arsenal.
