http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16811129042 - generic case, you can find one you prefer more - 60
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820148261 - ram - 60
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDet...st=Combo.230113 - mobo + cpu - 225
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDet...st=Combo.228693 - psu + gpu - 200

its gonna be about 600 total, including shipping
throw on a student copy of vista 64 bit, not xp 64 bit

dedicated CAD video cards are super expensive, so i just put a gaming one on, you will have plenty of power from the quad core anyway

if you wouldve posted two weeks ago, i could have built something EXCELLENT-TASTIC for 600 shipped. it was just so amazing, it would have rocked anything. but those deals expired and now everyone is sad. if i would have had money i would have spent it all on that OUTSTANDING deal.

but this is about the best i can do now, without spending lots of time or building a time machine to go get those deals.

also, grab an asus monitor, they have great quality at a great price, dont get built in speakers! acer has budget monitors that dont have very good contrast ratios.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16824236051 - asus monitor - 170, lots of different sizes and prices

itd be easy to put together, you can just ask for help on here.

a low profile netbook or lenovo laptop would work really good for class, but that would run another 400ish for a nice one

Is this a desktop or a laptop? If it's a laptop, I suggest investing in some top-grade cooling systems. I have a HP HDX 18t with similar specs and it puts out insane amounts of heat.
