About time we tried this again, though I have my doubts about whether or not prosecution will win it's case. Even if they do he won't get executed for a looooong time.

death penalty just seems like a way out for the criminals. Not to mention if you execute a murderer you're essentially murdering a murderer and even if you're murdering a murderer, it doesn't seem justified.

Death Penalty is a surefire to keep murderers and rapists from hurting anyone ever again.

Murder
"law: crime of killing somebody: the crime of killing another person deliberately and not in self-defense or with any other extenuating circumstance recognized by law"

"kill somebody brutally: to kill somebody with great violence and brutality"

because the system we have to determine guilt from innocence is far from perfect. It's not worth the risk to me.

I can see your POV from that regard. However, I do believe the risk is worth it.

Quote

Death penalty opponents say Louisiana is the only state to actively pursue lethal injection for child rapists, and argue, among other things, that it could give attackers a reason to murder their victims.

"If they're going to face the death penalty for raping a child, why would they leave a living witness?" said Judy Benitez, executive director of the Louisiana Foundation against Sexual Assaults.

I abhor this line of thinking... we don't get lenient for fear of TINKLEing off a rapist. not in my world.

Lethal injection is not cruel or unusual for a child rapist. Cruel and unusual is what happens to child molestors in prison. Cruel and unusual is giving them presumptive and consecutive life sentences with no hope of parole. Cruel and unusual is down-right BOINKing warranted in this case. I don't care what happens to a child rapist -- let them burn at the stake for all I care, it's more mercy than they would see if I'd been there to stop them in the first place.

While rape is a vile sickening crime, even more so when commited against a child, instituting the death penalty in every case could have even worse consequences.

For example, if a rapist knows he will die if he is caught then he has every reason to kill the victim. If the rapist know he might be shown leniency, than he will probably let the victim go. As horrible as rape is as a crime, murder is worse. One aspect of our justice system is deterence; not only to deter a criminals from commiting more crimes, but also to deter them from commiting worse crimes.

Unfortunately, no issue in our world is as easy as "kill him" or "bomb them." There are all sorts of complications.
