My last project was a biography of Sirhan Sirhan though, so I kind of wanted to steer clear of Bobby.

Or Forrest Gump (covers half-a-century's worth of US events, despite being fiction)
we had to watch that for US history. I hated it, but it did cover early immigration.

Thanks for all the input guys. I am really looking for movies about specific, important events though, not just general history. He (my teacher) wants it to be about something that had a large influence on the U.S. so I can compare and contrast the movie to the real event.

on a lighter note goodmorning vietnam , forest gump is debateable, M*A*S*H (the movie) platoon, tora tora tora, the longest day, green berets, bridge on the river quai, last of the mohecians (sp), the lost batalion,
you need to look to older movies for ons that really embody the events they depict the nes i listed above are all very strong movies goodmorning vietnam and M*A*S*H are very political but histerical at the same time M*A*S*H is based in Korea but is in protest of vietnam goodmorning vietnam is in vetnam staring robin williams as a radio personality.
if you havent seen any one of these movies you should they are all amazing films hope i helped!
