Yesterday, I ambushed two folks. I fired on the first person and landed about 4 hits on him before I went on and got the next guy, but instead of this first guy calling himself out, he turned around and returned a few rounds of fire (which luckily missed), THEN he checked if the paint broke (which all 4 did), and THEN called himself out.

What's the rule here? If he's hit (and I know he knows he was), can he shoot?
If he shoots and hits me, am I out?
This was woodsball. Any difference between wood & speed?

Thanx!

As a ref the way i would have done it, is IF i had seen him do that, then i would have called it and let u play on. but if i didnt see wat happened and saw u both with paint on i'd call u both out as i wouldnt know who was hit first.

It's a pretty cheap thing to do. It's not only common sense, but also courtesy to check yourself before bounces/breaks before returning fire.

yeah, it was kinda weird. He was out in the open and I was behind a tree... I didn't even EXPECT that kind of thing...

I tagged him, turned to guy #2, guy #1 fired, I dodged, took out guy #2 and turned back to guy #1 to finish him, but by that time he called himself out... I was ready to light him up (AGAIN).

Is there such a rule as "dead men can't kill"?

Bad news unless a ref is right there it could take out both of you. If the second backed what you did then the first guy would be out I would also have him sit a game for playing on. At a tourny that would be at least at 2 for 1. Hope someone talked to that guy.
Its simple I saw the hit,
Your out!!

Yep, I've been killed by dead people too. Most of who don't even check if the ball broke. Then they complain if you bonus ball them. We have an understanding (private field play), that you aren't out until you raise your marker up. So you have to hit some people 5-10 times before they realize that "gee, maybe I'm out" and they check for paint and/or raise their gun.

I pretty much agree with everyone in terms of rec play. And keep in mind, rec play does not have to be in the woods, it can be on a speedball field. But if the players are playing tourney style, or in an actual tournament itself, then person #1 is playing on with a hit, which (In the NPPL) is a 3 for 1 penalty. Of course, in a tournament, you will most likely have more refs on the field, so there is a better chance of a ref having seen you shoot player #1 and him turning and shooting back at you. Should a ref see that, most likely the ref will call player #1 out, call a penalty, and then wipe you off. If he can't wipe you off, then you need to refer to him when questioned by any other refs about any hits that you may have taken (If player #1 actually did hit you and they broke).

Shooting like there is no tomorrow. For all we know, there is no tomorrow.

Simply put, he was playing-on, which is obviously against the rules.

I'd have to see it. Somtimes people shoot off rounds or hit the dirt as a reaction. Its against the rules though. If he would have hit you I wouldve let ya play on.

It actually happened to me during a speedball tournament, it's the only time I won an argument witha ref. lol. I pointed out to the ref that I shot him in the foot (I was in the snake, right next to the ref) and than I moved up to the end of the snake to shoot out there last guy and the guy who I had shot gogged me. so I started up quite the argument, lol.

If im in a heated battle and I feel like I might have been shot, ill shoot a rnd or two then get back into cover and check, if I am out though and I hit him, Ill yell "ur ok player im out" or somthing along those lines.

Peace,
