Home Invasion

The above link happend just a couple miles from where I live. It is for this reason, I teach my family about guns. It is for this reason, I teach my family about checking the door before opening, and being aware of what's going on around you. It is for this reason, I make plans for emergencies and have a sort of 9 line taped on the fridge detailing where we live, who we are, what happened, etc. This way, it's easy for a scred half to death family member to remember what information to give, something to focus on. It's not paranoia, it's smart thinking.

Be safe people. Don't just trust any yahoo that comes up to you. Chances are, 99% of people will deal with you decently, and if in this case, you're selling something/buying something, it'll be a good deal. But, there's that 1% chance that what happened to this family will happen to you. Please be careful....

Thank you,

Phunky

Good job on training your family. Next step is to buy your wife a coach shotgun. Make the bad guys think twice. My dad says" If your a bad guy and you get through me and my heavily armed 7 sons, I feel bad for you. 'Cause there is no telling what my wife will do to you."

Yeah, All I say is be careful, and smart about what you do. It won't prevent all that could happen, but, being aware is the biggest part of it.

I meet in a public place to do local deals, too. I never take someone I've never met before to my home. And, now that I have a concealed weapons permit, I'm always armed as well.

Never post your info up on line. Never meet at your home for a transaction. Definitely a mistake on the families part. I hope the perpetrators are found and brought to justice.

Also, I have a 12 gauge and an AK, and soon an XD40 hopefully, to deal with just stuff like this. This is why you should concealed carry a handgun, even at home. No permit is required in your own home, and these home invasions happen fast. Having a gun on your person means you'll have it for the gunfight.

You're telling me you answer the door each and every time with a gun at the ready?

I don't have MAJOR problems. I have minor annoyances that YOU consider major problems.

No. But one tucked into the waistband isn't that hard. They never see it unless they need to.

And after a while, it's like carrying a wallet. You feel naked without it.

Now guys, let's not talk about carrying a gun.

Because, you know, that may even be illegal (depending on where you live).

Shut down the gun talk

Ok, now that I got that out of my system...

PW is correct. Carrying a gun (or having ready access to one) is a smart plan, especially for answering the door when it's either unexpected or a stranger.

No need to openly display it every time - that would be careless and stupid. IWB holsters are pretty nice, but for just a trip to the front door you can even "Mexican carry" (shove it unholstered in your belt/pants)

Also, for Craigslist type things, meet in a public area with plenty of people. That way, if the deal goes south there are witnesses, and the vast majority of problems that could occur won't due to those witnesses. If something does happen, be sure to yell loudly (that way, when witnesses report to the police, they'll be able to recall you telling him to go away/leave you alone/etc, not just the conflict itself).

Me too. Whenever I sell drugs on craigslist I always meet in the Wal-Mart parking lot. :superdodgy:

I've had a Makarov pistol on my hip since this morning, cross-draw IWB.

Never meet at your home or their home if possible.

Always have 'witnesses' around in a public place in daylight.
