If this wasn't all the way up at Oroville, I'd be so down for this. :)

Are they ever doing any at Travis AFB anymore since the paintball field closed down?

No
The Travis field is gone for good.

Oroville isnt THAT far away...if you're coming up from the south bay its only about 1-1/2 hours north of Travis. Its a good field - well worth the extra driving.

The last time I was at a TAW event, it was really disorganized, there were no set missions, generals were just writing missions arbitrarily on the spot, the refs didn't agree on the rules, one would tell you to do something, and then another would yell at you for it, and the paint was stuff TAW forced us to buy from them, which had been left to sit in an unheated trailer up in Orville when it was getting close to freezing every night.

Because of all that I was pretty discouraged about playing scenarios in N.Cal. It seemed to me like TAW charged a lot more than other scenario companies, but offered much less. But because TAW has no real competitors in this area, they don't seem to be motivated to improve.

I like scenarios, and I just wanted to let the people from TAW know, that if they improved some things, some of us would be willing to give them another chance.

How long ago was this event?
Ive been playing TAW since late '06 & have only had good experiences...although I have heard of a few games from awhile back where there were issues. Lately they seem to have their system running pretty well. Traditionally TAW genaerals do write most of their own missions, but I know that starting this year they are changing the mission structure a bit - more missions from the producer & a clearer system for general missions.
We had some problems with lousy refs once, but they had been provided by the field itself rather than TAW & I dont think they wanted to be there. Usually reffing is quite good.

You may want to give them another chance...I think you might be plesantly suprised.
But you're right, I would like to see more scenarios in NorCal too. Black Cat, MXS....somebody. I personally really enjoy the TAW games, but would still like to see someone else get into the scene out here.

I've only ever had good times at TAW events myself...I go to the ones in WA and OR, but I doubt the format of the games changes for the games in Cali. I'm sorry to hear the refs seemed to be mixed up for this scenario but to my knowledge, TAW always uses the field refs and they have always done a great job at the games I have been at.

You should give them another try! Especially since it's only one bad time that may be cloudying your opinion.

At many of the Cali games, its a combo of field refs & members of TAW sponsored teams. Having sponsored players as refs really seems to keep things running smoothly - since they are regular TAW players, they know the specific rules inside out, while the local refs know the field/terrain. Seems to work well...

It's not that it's particularly awfull, or that any one thing that I mentioned was that severe. It's just that for the amount of money they charge for admission, plus high priced FPO paint, AND an additional charge for air, that adds up to quite a bit of $.
And I would pay it happily if I thought what I was paying for was worth the money.

But my impression of the 3 day event I went to was that it was more like a Big Game, than a scenario.
"Real" scenarios IMO have a lot of time and effort put into them ahead of time. The creator write and coordinate missions so that opposing sides have an varying array of conflicts and engagements. The reffs ALL are on top of whats going on, and what the rules of the scenario are, because they are working for the PLAYERS who paid a lot of money for them to be there.

I could create a TAW like event by getting me and my friend to each get a 100 of our closest friends together and all play paintball at the same time, and then call it a "scenario" because me and my friend each make up missions for opposite teams as we go along.
That is not worthy of being called a scenario.
