It can use either. High pressure tanks get slightly less dropdown.

Ok.... The air in a tank is compressed to the pressure that the guage reads. The regulator on the tanks lowers the pressure output. The regs on high pressure tanks are set somewhere around 800 psi. The regs on low pressure tanks put out around 400 psi. The reg on a marker lowers the psi to whatever you want. But the psi controls the velocity. The higher the pressure, the higher the velocity. The pressure should be set around 160. But it varies from marker to marker.

A reg has something called recharge. Which is how fast it can recharge the psi after a shot. With a low pressure tank the reg on your marker has a slightly less recharge rate. So when you shoot faster your velocity will be lower becasue the reg hasnt had time to recharge to its original psi. This is commonly called dropdown.

Hope this helped.

I thought it was called "shootdown".. but anyway.

Another aspect with the low/hi regs on tanks.

A low pressure reg will allow more shots.

There is a test that shows the number of shots per tank with the Ion/SP-8. I think the best tank out of the ones tested turned out to be the PMI 68/4500 Low Pressure Reg tank.

Actionvillage.com is the best place to buy an ion. And lp tanks have nothing to do with efficiency. If there were any efficiency gains, it wouldnt be noticable (like maybe 10-15 shots). And you couldnt test it accuratley enough to even bother.
