Microswitch uses a micro switch. Every time you pull the trigger back it push the switch down to make the gun fire.

Opto uses a laser and every time you break the beam of the laser your gun fires.

Some people like the positive feedback provided by the microswitch (like me) and others prefer the smooth pull of an optical system. It's really a matter of preference more then anything else.

There's also one more sensor that you don't hear of often - the Hall Effect Sensor. The Mini uses it and so do E-Mags and X-Mags. I can't think of anything else that uses them. Basically it uses a magnet in the trigger and a magnet in the frame and measures the pulling force of the one in the frame to tell where the trigger is, so when it's at the right point, it fires. Very similar feel to an optical switch since there's no physical contact.

One thing i hate about opticals is when you take a shot to the trigger. If any paint finds its way onto the optics you have to take the grip apart to clean them for the marker to fire correctly.

And micro switches needed to be changed occasionally. Neither one is better than the other.

it takes a couple years of real use of a gun like a case a week for the microswitch to get worn out so nothing to worry about there.

The thing I dont like about optical is that when you pull the trigger it feels empy or hollow, it doesn't feel like I'm pulling a trigger.

Meh, Its not like you have to replace it all teh time but I've seen them go down. *shrug* We ball a lot though.

I like smoother pulls, but they seem to be harder to get crisp.

When i first put my tadao board in the trigger pull was a little heavy. I figured out you have to take all the ajusting screws out of the trigger and it makes it so much lighter.
