So, in the next week I'll be filming for WDR's first "home release". I don't want to go into depth here about content, that's not my concern yet. But, I have a question for you all about your preferred "home media" format. I can go a few ways, but I'd like to ask you folks. Which would you prefer?
up sides, playable on any TV, computer, and so on. Easy to navigate chapter to chapter. Much more professional looking, and looks really nice in the end product.
down sides, on my end it would probably delay the release by a month or two as I find somewhere that will press a short run of DVD's. And by short, I mean 500 or 250. Not to mention the front-cost of printing everything for them. And they have to be "region free" or I run into problems abroad.
up sides, SPEED. I can release the whole video, potentially, by early/mid June. It's ready to be put into any portable media player for portable "at field" viewing. Playable on almost all computers as well.
down sides, MUCH easier to pirate. Harder for the end user to easily navigate because they're playing MP4's and not a DVD, and HAS to have a computer to see it. Plus the end result will look, well, amateur as I'll be burning MP4's onto a CD ROM on my computer here. Not all bad, but it's still pretty "amateur"
So I'm open to ideas here. Opinions? Preferences?
