You cannot bring markers (aka Paintball Guns) in your carry-on luggage. Pack them in your checked baggage. We do not consider paintball guns to be firearms and you can pack them in unlocked, soft or hard sided luggage.

Please also read our section on compressed gas cylinders for more information. http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/DUMPER...ressed_gas.shtm

Please note: Many of the seals/regulators used in paintball are not designed for the end user to remove from their cylinders. Only a factory trained technician should remove or reinstall the seal/regulator.

If you are considering air travel with a compressed air or CO2 system, you should contact the manufacturer of the system for help finding a qualified technician. You should also consider having a parcel service ship the system to your destination.

Isn't this obvious? Why would it be in your carry-on anyways?

Ok so the way I read this I can pack my HPA tank (empty of course and with the reg in tact) in my checked baggage. Its only when I want to carry it on :) that I would have to have a certified tech take the reg off. Am I correct?

No. The reg must be removed to fly with it, no matter where the system is located.

Yes, because it the tank ruptures, that thing is essentially like a missile. And I'm sure you don't want anyone to take a flying tank to the skull right?

Ok, I read it again and was just a little confused by the wording. As much as it sucks, it makes sense. I guess i'm Fedexing my tanks! Thanks for the clarification!

Is this just a coincidence that this was posted the same day I posted mine? Or an improved version...?

Thanks for putting this together and sticky-ing it, Evil. It seems to be one of the more commong questions posed on the forum. Hopefully this will help a lot of paintballers. (and now a link is going into my sig.)
Good luck, Goldy.

CO2 regulators are not designed to be removed. HPA tanks are different, but in order to keep CO2 safe the threads are normally loctighted on. IIRC not having the threads of CO2 loctighted down is really, REALLY unsafe.

Another word of warning for people looking to ship their air tanks... take it to a post office, not to a place like Staples or Mail Boxes Etc. or some shipping service.

I was shipping some air tanks last week, and the guy at Mail boxes, etc. asked what was in the box, so I told him, and he refused to ship them. Also, the tanks must be empty of air if you ship them. (for the same reason as above, the tank could turn in to a projectile under pressure).

I wound up taking them to the post office and they didn't ask a single question, no problems at all. I'm thinking I just got an idiot clerk, but if you are in a strange city or under time constraints, it could be a hassle. Also, it only cost $2 more to ship them Second Day Air, rather than ground (5 - 7 days) so ask about pricing. :P

Sorry, Tyger, you heard this story this afternoon. LOL
