If you see your tank starting to back off the reg, stop and have it repaired. There isn't much danger of the tank becoming a rocket, as regulator threads have 2 "blood grooves" to bleed off all the pressure before the cylinder separates from the regulator.

the first few threads do not have the vent. Usually the vents are about halfway down the threads.

And usually they're not enough to stop it from becoming a missile, just enough to reduce its speed.

It seems like the loctite came loose. Good thing you noticed before it started to vent.

That won't save you unless it also has a bleedoff valve. Most don't. Even then there's still a risk, depending on how loose it is. I'm not too surprised that it was a PMI tank, though. PMI's quality is collapsing all around. Their paint's gone to hell, and they aren't getting any real marketing deals anymore. I think KEE is planning on getting rid of the PMI brand name. All the evidence points to it. You look at the brand names KEE has, and that's the one name that doesn't really pull its own weight, especially since its original niche has evaporated due to the Internet.

Really?

All of the ones I have seen do. (CCM, CP, Eclipse, NDZ, and a few others I don't remember)

tank sellers haven't been putting locktite on HPA tanks since the airline regulations changed after 9-11 unless you specifically asked for it.

The tank ORing that sits in the gland in the tank neck isn't always going to stop it from unscrewing...users must be careful and watch what they are doing no matter WHAT tank they have...

This happened to me, but the tank started leaking so I stopped unscrewing it. I just left it alone to leak out the rest of the air before touching it.
