Careful, This hogs wild.

Nice. Is that a 250cc? I was thinking about either a Rebel or an older low displacement Shadow as my first bike. How does it sound and ride?

I'm actually leaning a bit more towards the Shadow because I think the frame looks a bit bigger and I may fit on it better. I'm a bit tall (6'4"), so thats a concern for me. But then again, I know very little about bikes.

Because going insanely fast on something that offers literally no protection is a brilliant idea :ghillie:

Yeah i know, ive always loved bikes and will ride them forever. Or i could get one of those turbine bikes. It runs off of a helicopter turbine engine to reach 250mph. I dont plan on dying but if it happens im ready.

Alright, my motorcycle intrests have changed from a multi-purpose northern vehicle to something to get as a commuter while I'm at school. Why? Because spending the extra for an enduro bike is wasted in Whitehorse, where you can only ride the streets 5 months a year, tops. Not the snow on the roads, it's just waaaaayyyyy too damn cold. However, in Windsor, I could bike all year around. January and Febuary might be a little rough sometimes, but no big.

So, as such, I've been browsing Autotrader for a decent bike, and I've come across this '02 Kawasaki Vulcan.
4000 KM is pretty good, especially for its age and looks like it might not be a bad starter bike. Powerful enough to get on the highway when I work up to that, but not powerful enough for me to (accidentally) seriously hurt myself while I'm learning. However, I'm still very much a bike noob. Anybody got any advice on this bike? Granted, I might go for a brand-new one, as they're only $5000 new, but still, money is tight. Plus, I can insure one for $2700 a year (Versus close to $6000 for me for a small car-being a student living across the country from parents sucks out loud sometimes).

Since you'll be at school, not driving much, need very cheap insurance and overall fee's - why not get a scooter? They're cheap, can keep up until you hit the highways, and are a great learning curve machine.

Now, if you will need to take highways - or you plan to a lot - that bike seems like a good way to go. I don't know much pricing since I'm more of a sport bike enthusiast, but that seems like a pretty good deal.

Yay! This thread is back.

I've looked at scooters, but they're not really any cheaper for me to buy or insure, and I can't leave the city on one (I wouldn't be hitting the 401 or anything, just country roads and such).
I've also been looking at the Suzuki GZ250. It's a lot cheaper on insurance, although the 250 seems a little light to me.

I have a question.

At what height are you really really just "too big" for a sports bike/crotch rocket? As in too big to comfortably ride it.

Never too tall, On Crustys Dirt Demons that one guy is 6'4" and tears it up. One of my good buddys is 6'2", 235 solid muscle and hits the 110 ft table top all day and thats on his honda 450. As for go fast bikes... If your that tall get a Hyabusa. They are pretty long and they haul butt. Not the best turning bikes but they turn. I know bikes out there can accomodate the taller guys but how comfy you will be on those bikes is the issue. But mind over matter. "Myself, you arent cramped on this bike at all, in fant its too big"...... and if that dont work do alot of stretch excersizes.

Well I'm comfortable on my friends CBR600rr but I can only sit up straight for so long, I need to be leaning forward to be comfortable. Anyways, thanks for the tips, I'll check em out.
