My SP1 just came in this morning, been playing around with it tring to familirize myself with it. But I have one question does anyone know the size of the screws for the rear cover, oh and I mean the thread size?

Nevermind I'm just gonna mount the stock off the bottom of the grip.

The SP-1 is the Smart Parts tactical marker. It seems to be the response to the Tac-One, Blackcell, MR series, etc.

Been out quite a while, actually.

I'm recalling something about Ion internals, but I could be wrong.

apparently it has nearly identical parts as the Ion, but differentiated just enough that none of the upgrades for an Ion will fit into the SP1, which is good business, but pretty dang annoying.

also be fore-warned doing anything but removing the bolt (opening grip frame, removing regulator) will void your warrenty on the marker.

also it has no eyes, has a more CO2 friendly reg, the rails are glued onto the body, and the stock board is capped at 11 bps

it functions almost exactly like the Ion, and it also comes in a 'speedballer' style called the Vibe

The warranty issue is a bit vague. I'm not sure why folks think that disassembling the marker will void the warranty. According to the documentation and warranty card that came with my SP-1, IMPROPER disassembly/reassembly will void the warranty. So taking it apart will not void your warranty. If you screw it up by taking it apart improperly or putting it back together improperly then it will be void. This would be common sense with anything you buy. It looks like the same warrany card and wording would come with all of the SmartParts markers. But I don't know that for a fact because the SP-1 is my first SmartParts brand marker I've owned.

The rail is molded into the body, bottom rail is securly screwed into metal. The 4 side rails are screwed and lightly glued. So you'll want to be careful if your mounting something that will stress the side rail alot, like heavy lights etc. Folks are putting red-dots on the side rails and don't seem to be having any issues with them.

For more info on the SP-1 check out the SP-1 specific forum on PBnation-

So far it appears to be an excellent mid-range electro at a low end price.
About the SP-1 not taking Ion parts- I have heard differing opinions, that it will take Ion Bolts, or that it won't. I have one ordered, as soon as it's here I'll put my Ion's Firebolt in and see if it works. I am pretty sure that at least the L7 will not work in it, since there are posts from TechT on the SP-1 forum about making a new L7 for it.
Edit- from TechT, appears the only change is the bolt stop-

Oh and we made the bolt stop different for the VIBE AND SP-1. Because you can not adjust the dwell we have modified the bolt stop so that the bolt conserves air with each shot

I'm sorry, but to call it a mid-end is like calling a spyder rodeo a mid-end mech. I wouldn't even call the Ion a mid-end. a Mini is what is commonly considered a mid-end.

it may be an ok marker, but other than the fact that it handles CO2 better there is no reason not to shell out the extra 30-40 dollars and pick up an Ion

Yeah, excellent point. the old Ion styles have had a major price drop, which I bet will dip into the sales of the Vibe/SP-1. I assume this to move inventory of the old stock, once they're gone, thats it. The new Ion (Ion XE) with bolt out back is in the $240 range which puts it around $100 more than the Vibe/SP-1.

Although the Vibe/SP-1 is the lowest end marker SmartParts sells, they are a definite step up from the low end markers being sold by Kingman and Tippman.
