So anyway, I've been looking for an optic to mount on my AR for like 2 years now, and, while I have an idea of what I want, I could really use some help.
Here's the story (sit down while you still can. lol)-
I want a red dot style sight for my AR- I like a very open view, along with the quick aquisition associated with them.
I really like the Eotech style of sights- after shooting a smg with one on it, I was completely sold. Great visibility, runs on regular AA batteries, and co-witnesses with my iron sights (I am running a Stag Arms Model 2 with the rear flip-up sight).
But the darn things are 400+ dollars- and what do you know, but after a lot of research it turns out that those are the CHEAP sights!! And believe me, I have looked at the Aimpoints, Trijicons, Insight Tech., and just about every other brand I've heard of.
The fact remains that there is no way in hell I am going to pay that much for a sight. So I've started looking around for alternatives. Here's some of the most promising sights I've come up with-
Bushnell Trophy ser. TRS-25- Kind of an Aimpoint style sight. (http://www.opticsplanet.net/bushnell-1x25-...dot-731303.html)
Bushnell Trophy ser. 730132P- Kind of like an ACOG. (http://www.opticsplanet.net/bushnell-troph...pe-730132p.html)
Issues with the above sights-
-Will the TRS mount to an AR rail?
-I don't think I'll be able to use my irons with either still on the gun.
-I hate non AA/AAA batteries.
-I don't really want any magnification.
I found one other type that I'm really starting to like- Hate to say it, but actually got the idea from COD. But this is the style of sight that I'm thinking of most seriously- simple and open, and fast.
Burris Fastfire 2- like an Insight Tech MRDS (http://www.opticsplanet.net/burris-fastfir...fire-sight.html)
-I still probably won't be able to use my iron sights with it still on the gun
-Will I have to buy a seperate mount to attach it to the rifle? I have not been able to find a clear answer to this....
-I hear of/see this sight on handguns a lot. But it would seem to be ok for a rifle too, right? Or do they make specific sights of this style for both individually?
So that's it.
Any opinions or other ideas would be appreciated.
