i'd just approach the parents about it. if you just delete it, they'll find out and be PERTURBED. if you approach them in a grown up calm and collected manner, you may have a chance.

You know what I'd do in a situation like that? I'd reformat the whole computer. Wipe it clean. Wipe out EVERYONE'S stuff. Then just say, "It died." Either that or mess it up in some way that will force a full system reload. Then again, I'm rather vindictive like that.

No. They're not reading it "right now". They'll come back later and retrieve it.

Hijack This, I used it to remove a few programs that my AV software couldn't kick. Or you could log into their e-mail, change their passwords, and say "See, not fun when people do stuff behind your back, is it?" And of course delete all the e-mailed crap. And add that address to their blocked list.

... followed by - 'Kind of sucks to be grounded by your parents'

They are your parents and are worried about you.

You are doing no wrong, and they are doing no wrong by monitoring the safety of their child. Just tell them what you found.

I had a similar program loaded onto the computer I paid for, connected to internet I help pay for. All I did was calmly approach my parents, ask a few of the right questions about why they think they can't trust me, and they agreed to let me take it off. Easy as that. Don't go and have a shouting match, don't just delete it, have a calm cool and collected conversation with them.

What my parents don't know is now that I know they have the program, I've set up my computer to automatically toast the program if they ever try again.

Not having your parent's trust sucks, but you can gain it back, or make them realise you deserve it. All it takes is a cool head, and some (hopefully) smart parents. Of course they could be reading this now, and I've given up the gimmick. But whatever. If you need help with it, PM me. I'm no whiz on Macs, but I do know my way around a computer.
If you don't stand behind our troops, why don't you go stand infront of them?

It was nice having the only true Administrator account, I'll say that much. I knew the system well enough that I learned what each and every process did. If I saw any consipicuous processes, I'd inspect them. I ran my system lean and didn't want anything running that would slow it down. They never tried that, although that was primarily because it was before software like that was really available. They did lots of other things that were simply betrayals that resulted in me locking down the computer or refusing to help them with something they really needed until they backed down.
