You need to solder the wire to the terminal. All you need is a cheap soldering iron from Radio Shack and a roll of solder. Just go to Radio Shack and tell them what you need.

Plug the soldering iron in so it can get hot.

You will need to secure the wire so that it's touching the terminal. If you don't have anybody to help you just set something on the wire to keep it in place like a screwdriver or pair of pliers or something. You may also want to sit something on the green plastic terminal set to keep it from moving around too.

While holding the end of the new solder so that it's touching the wire and the terminal, hold the hot tip of the soldering iron to the terminal and wire until the solder melts and covers the tip of the wire and the terminal then stop and let it cool.

You're done.

Tips for soldering-- You need to get the terminal you're soldering the wire to just as hot as the solder so the solder will take to it properly.

Don't keep the iron on the terminal too long. If you keep it too hot for too long you can melt the
green plasic casing and damage the system.

If you try to do this yourself I recommend practicing by soldering some small pieces of wire together until you get the hang of it.

If you don't feel you can handle this you might just find somebody that can solder it for you. It won't take more than a minute and shouldn't cost much if anything at all.

Depends.
Do you want to damage anything?
Do you not want the solder to be placed accurately and neatly?

If you answer no, then grab a blow torch.

A soldering iron keeps a constant temperature and is easy to work with.

You may have a soldering gun already. Have you ever gotten one of those wood burning kits as a gift? The iron from that will work.

It was probably soldered to begin with. The "rubber tube like thing" was probably just some heat shrink insulation that helped it hang on after the wire broke.

Yup. If you wanted to you could buy one of the fancy assed $40.00 models that are designed to be used in a static free environment.... But if you aren't going to be using it all that often why waste the $$$?
