Don't join a service just because you have to leave. Why do you have to leave, if you don;t mind me asking? Go for what you want. Why can't you become a CE? I'm retired Navy, and never heard of them not wanting CB's. They might not be giving bonuses for CB's right now but, I don't think they would turn you down. What was their reason for saying no to you being a CE?

May God have mercy upon my enemies, because I won't!

Any branch you have to go through the Delayed Entry Program. You will have to pass MEPS, and the ASVAB for any branch. MEPS, DEP and ASVAB are only once a month. You can sometimes get them all done in one day, but not always. Once you are signed up for the DEP, (If you pass your ASVAB and MEPS) you have at least a month before you can ship from what I understand. The USCG has a longer wait to ship because more people want to get in per the amount of open spaces they have than any other branch. If your ASVAB score is under 70, you better plan on taking it again. The only reason I only have a 4 month wait is because I scored a 90. The USCG is the hardest branch to get into, and the higher your score, the sooner you can get in. If your ASVAB is under 70, its gonna take a while, under 50, you might as well give up. Not saying this to discourage you, but to urge you to try harder. Great thing about the CG, is you will more than likely be working with some of the more inteligent individuals in the US military.

Basic training for the USCG is almost as hard as it is for the USMC from what I hear. So you will deffinatly be challenged.

Good luck in what ever you decide to do!

I guess they have enough as it is. I cant get a straight answer from the recruiter...i really wish i joined last year becuase this new recruiter is awful. I didn't even want to be there after talking to the guy for 5min. some kid i know went to be a CB CE not to long ago and he was also told there was no positions available, he is now going to be EOD (he is the delayed entry program right now)

My bro made a mistake and took regular infantry, but he wanted MP. All I can tell you is push the recruiter, tell him if he can't find an open slot you'll join another branch. He has to meet a monthly quota, he won't be willing to just turn you away. just remember they want you to join, so you make the deals.

Well, the USCG does not have "regular infantry".

You go to basic as an E1, graduate E2. Get your qualifications in, and petition for E3. Then apply for A-school, where you train for the job you chose, and graduate that as an E4, and advance from there. You can stay a non-rate for as long as you want, but I don't believe you will advance beyond E3

the coast guard rank structure is pretty much the same as the Navy. You can not advance to E4 with out a rate(job). Most of the time they push for you to get a rate while an E3.

6'4" so that wont be a problem...kind of an odd requirment though. whats the reasoning behind that?

i might try to take the asvab and meps through the navy and just not swear in if they wont let me be a ce...then just bring myself down to the coast guard recruiter.
