You may not need to buy anything. HAve you tried to turned down the velocity some? that might be the problem. if its still acting up, better paint or a new barrel should help alot. but, like i said, check the velocity first. if it is too high, it will put that curve your talking about in it

Ok, this is a conditional problem. Working with any low-/entry- level marker, you have the mechanical issues to deal with first. If you go to a chronograph in the same conditions you see these curveballs, do you still see consistent velocity? If you don't, you need to check your air source, and all air paths. If you're using CO2, use an anti-syphon tank (this can be installed by a professional to fit your tank on your marker, they must be matched to be effective) and an inline expansion chamber. Or just switch to LPA/HPA (assuming the marker can handle it, which most can with proper regulation, but that's for another topic completely). This should fix problems with velocity dropoffs (which lead to "curveballs" dropping after short distances).

If your velocity is consistent, then there is one of two problems in the barrel. First, clean the barrel to near polish. If your still shooting curveballs, see if it's consistently shooting in one specific direction (say, it always curves to the left when you hold the gun upright with the barrel screwed in all the way). If this is the case, you may have damaged the barrel itself. Even the slightest dent in the barrel can disrupt the balls spin and the airflow around the ball, causing the characteristic curve. If this is the problem, by a new barrel and save this one (it can be fun to trade out barrels to "shoot around bunkers" mid-game, companies are actually selling specialized curved barrels now). For this type of gun, I'd recommend a J&J Ceramic or Stiffi. Don't spend too much on the barrel because you probably won't keep the gun too long. But those are quality, durable barrels for Spyders/Piranhas.

If the ball curves at random and the barrel is spotless, then this is a fundamental physics problem in the barrel. The paint your shooting is not matched well enough to the bore size of the barrel so that the air pushing the ball out is leaking past it and messing with the direction vector of acceleration. This can be fixed by buying better paint or simply accepting it and shoot 3 balls per snap shot instead of two, etc. There is always the option to buy a Freak kit or similar 3 piece barrel that allows you to swap bore-size inserts to match the paint. But this is a more expensive option and is not worth it on a Spyder unless you can find it cheaper than MSRP. Also, you may be able to find a better barrel matching the paint you tend to use more. Try them out at your local store, see what matches best. Finally, make sure the barrels holes are cleaned so that air can escape more uniformly around the ball's path.

Hope this helped.
Happy hunting.

And this helps him....how? Try cleaning it (of course lol) and turn the velocity down a tad.

The best way for most mechanical or low end markers to achieve greater accuracy is by upgrading from the stock barrel.

A J&J Ceramic barrel is a great choice for a beginning player and or a low end marker like a spyder. The ceramic is self cleaning, medium bore and just all around a great barrel for the 30 dollar price tag.

Many low-end markers such as tippmanns and sypders have just godawful stock barrels. I almost had to watch behind me every time I fired my 98 just to make sure I wasn't about to shoot myself it the rear.
