Hey guys,

I was looking at getting some wood grips next year when I have money again - I just loved the idea how pump guns get better with use/age so I figured I should get some grips that will too!

My first dilemma is whether or not to get just straight grips ($100 +) ... or the stabilized wood to make the grips myself. ($50 ish)

Second, the type of wood - a lot of these would be GREAT on a red/black phantom, plus I have some colourblindness, so I don't always trust my judgement (this is ignoring my colour-stupidity). Sorry, the image file types are wrong for the straight wood pieces - just click the links.

First: Buckeye Burl

And, while I wouldn't do this on MY Phantom (being green and black), I'm sure Legato and others would appreciate:

Purple Maple Burl

Purple Maple Burl1
Purple Maple Burl2

Or even Raspberry Wine Spalted Curly Maple

Raspberry

Newly added to their site:
Blue/Purple Box Elder Burl --> I LIKE this. Get it Legato haha :P
Here

Thoughts? Alternatives? I was originally going to superimpose the grips on the Phantom, but my Photoshop skills appear to be lacking (as I've never used) and Paint is crap.

Jeez. Didn't know grips could be that expensive for something like that. IMO, I would get the money on something more important...

Though, if you must know :D I think the first ones are the best looking woods ones, but the sleek black at the end looks good!

And this one is amazing!!!! Blue/Purple Box Elder Burl

I KNOW! I wonder if I could get away with the blue :P lol not that I have any money now - it'll probably be gone.

And Thanks Puz :) though a lot of them have the diamond checkering, and I think I'd like to stay with a smooth wood - and a natural finish.

The upside to the grips/woods shown in the topic is that they have been "stabilised" with acrylic (I believe) so that they are not easily affected by chemicals nor ruined by too much moisture, etc.

EDIT: Please vote ;) and remember, not the best looking one, but the best on my marker ;)

Haha I KNOW eh??! I expect its something to do with the acrylic stabilisation that allows them to get that colour.
You want it and I don't even have the grips yet? :P

This isn't bad either:

Black Redwood Lace Burl

EDIT: By the way, I think the light colours would make a nice contrast too :P

I do not agree, the orange would look tacky.
any woods with a dark brown or a black, even if it already has a bright colour will work. you need something to tie in the earthy green from the marker, and the black.

Sorry, I meant the lighter coloured grips (ie. Maples) ... like I said, I am partially colourblind :P (green deficient, rather conveniently). I just meant that one looked cool too, not necessarily with mine. I am terrible with colour matching though ><

Haha mine seems particularly bad - it might be my colour stupidity mixing in but blues/purples, reds/oranges, yellows/greens (Etc!) ALL give me issues -_-

I even found one colour (a green) my mother asked me if I liked .... I saw white.

Found a particularly comprehensive site

I thought I saw a set of green/ black wood grips on the site once.... I was partially right.

They are actually blue/green wood...

Tough call. Whatever you get will look good. If you want some finger grooves for those wood grips get some of these. Pearce finger groove inserts. They go under the grips and give you a nice finger grooved front for comfort. I hate panel grips alone. But with these they are great. :D Have em on my Mini Comp with my Alumagrips.

Wood grps can get quite costly. Not only does wood cost alot, but making the grips is a PITA and not simple. Some of the more comfy grips are usually more costly. I love my Alumagrips, but damn did that hurt paying for em. LOL

Most people voted for Desert Ironwood, so I quickly shooped it onto your Phantom. You'll have to ignore the finger grooves.

If you have a particular grip you'd like to see on your Phantom, I'd be happy to do it for you. But only one, yeah?

Good call on those inserts! I was thinking about that too, but I figured I would just try the panels alone first to see.

And thanks Mike! That doesn't look bad at all despite the reds! Haha I will admit I'm curious about the Blue/Purple Box Elder Burl ;) but no worries about that one haha.

Would you mind showing me the second Spalted Maple? Thanks :)
