this depends on the paint-to-barrel match, the marker you're shooting, the overall barrel length on each one, the air source you're using, whether or not the marker is low or high pressure.

What's your setup?

If you are talking about sound difference between the two regardless of the marker setup, I would have to say the Hammerhead even though I have not shot either one. The reason I say the Hammerhead is because it has reverse porting on it, thus throwing all the sound back at you instead of your target.

the battstixx sounds loud to u because of reverse porting but is quieter to the recieving end

I was originally looking at the battlestixx. I like the idea of the reverse porting so your target doesn't hear it. But, if you come up between two people, then the other is going to hear it and since there isn't much porting on it, I would imagine it would be louder than say a J&J. That's why I am looking into the Sly barrel (mainly because it's carbon fiber and it comes camo wrapped so need to modify it).

anyone that thinks the freak is quieter has sever hearing issues or has never heard both barrels and voted out of sheer idiocy

I can't say I've seen anyone with an hammerhead products out where I play (nor. VA) but, I'd have to say that the AA front probably has the edge here. There aren't nearly as many holes, they are bigger, and they are grouped closer together. All of this combined, results in the gas being let out much more suddenly when compared to a barrel that lets the air out more gradually, like the AA front. Sure, the holes are angled backwards which certainly helps but, I think the other issues seriously outweigh this.

There is one interesting thing I have noticed about the freak back though. I have stainless inserts and, I notice that at the end of my 'pop', there is a faint 'zing', and I mean real faint. I'm guessing this is caused by the stainless insert vibrating against the aluminum back. However, I only noticed this when I was using my ebolt kit which made my gun mad quiet. Now, the noise from the blowback is noisier than the barrel.

As an aside, I'd recommend the stiff-tip for the freak. Sure it's a bit expensive but, it's lightweight, better-ported (than a hammerhead) and has the added benefit of carbon fiber's improved sound attenuation.

I had a Freak kit for about 2 weeks, then sold it and went back to my 1 piece CPs. The barrels are junk IMO but if you like them hey to each his own... Anyways to the reason I'm posting, you can get both. You can get the Freak back and inserts and get a HH tip. Just thought you'd like to know... But get a Hammer Head.

I haven't shot the Freak yet but I did have a Hammerhead. My gut instinct is the AA front will be quieter because the compressed gas is diffused over a larger area through a bunch of smaller vents rather than the large ports on the front of the HH, regardless of what direction the HH vents point.
