I played with a guy several saturdays ago. He swore that by playing a F.P.S. game online itwould make you more skilled in paintball. This was his first time playing. Of course he was all decked out in speedball attire and was sporting a ion xe? with ramp. I don't see how that could make someone better at a sport if you don't actually go out and practice. Could I be wrong? I guess I just don't see how sitting infront of a screen and playing aganst someone else will make you better at a sport.

God I can't help myself from taking that out of context. I apologize.

I would say he's incorrect for sure. Even real war itself doesn't help you in paintball. I watched a rookie team roll all over a team made up of all Army Special Forces and a few other soldiers. It was a no contest. They're used to engaging from fiurther away and accuracy. Plus loook at the form used to fire a weapon vs. paintball gun. So I don't see how a video game simulating war would possibly help you...

first of all modern warfare would not be anywhere near speedball. totally different styles of "play". next, a video game is not the same as a person in the real world running and gunning. tactics wise MAYBE it gives you the ability to try practicing some techniques, like cqb, or slicing angles, etc. but it is not a "simulator". not even greg hastings paintball game is a good "simulator" of paintball. its a game.

paintball to a point is a simulator of warfare. the ranges, etc are altered but last time i checked if you tried playing paintball with real weapons, you'd be dead in seconds.

I like to play Greg Hasting's game when I can't go to the field but, I wouldn't say it's a good simulator. It gives me the ability to dive (which I do not do well in reality) and cheating doesn't make you feel bad. It's fun for sure but, it doesn't make me better at paintball.

I would say the only way it might even COME CLOSE and this is a BIG MAYBE is in the realm of tactics and getting a grip on how people think...but then at the same time, it's paintball, not a videogame....

SOOO....I agree with Pirate.

To actually practice and make yourself better, go out and actually play, dont sit in front of a screen and "practice". Actually playing the real game of paintball and not some video game will actually make you a better player.

God Bless!!!

The only thing I can see the video game helping with is spotting, seeing small movements and identifying it as friend or foe.

Reaction times? No. It takes more time to actually lift aim and fire a marker than it does in a game.

Stealth? No, games don't really have stray sticks, leaves and such that can give away your positions if you step on it.

Communications? Maybe. Some games do let you use mics. But what do you do in a paintball game when nobody has a radio and the other team can hear what you are going to do?

Tactics? Maybe. You can learn concepts but putting them into action in real life is harder, especially since paintball is a close range game.

Frankly I think it would be better to read a book about paintball tactics

I agree with what puz said.

They are very few minimal things that you could actually get out of it.

Thank you! my point exactly. I wanted to argue with him on the topic. Although, seeing that he is a complete retard. I figured nothing I would of said would have even gotten through his head. He honestly believed that playing games like Modern Warfare makes you and I quote from him "L33T" ha ha. Then explain why is it that he keeps getting shot out all the time?

I think video games could be somewhat instructive.....As Puz mentioned...learning very superficial concepts.

But you guys are for certain correct. The only way to learn to do something for real, is to go and do it for real.
