I had some free time on my hands and figured I would take some pictures of my ACUPAT and my Woodland to see which blends better. Regardless of the results I still prefer ACUPAT. Whats your opinion?

I'm guessing you took the pics with a digital camera? Keep in mind, digital cameras see colors differently than the human eye or film so the pics may not be "fair". When you look at a black suit you see black, a digital camera will see it with a red or blue tint depending on the base color for the black dye.

I've never really liked ACU it doesn't really blend with anything. MARPAT, CADPAT, and OMNIPAT all work better than ACU or Woodland, but I have a soft spot for good old Woodland.

Yeah, I agree with Weigel. ACU is nice and pretty, but it doesn't blend well with woodland areas. Certain desert/mountainous areas, sure; but not wooded areas. Honestly, IMO, MARPAT works the best for the type of area you show. Woodland camo works really well in the summer, though. When you have clumps of grass, dirt, and other textures, it does a pretty good job of blending in. I don't think ACU is good for Camouflage, but it is a nice uniform.

Don't like either in that environment- especially since it's fall. In the summer, Woodland would work as would Omnipat, Multicam, CADPAT or MARPAT, Flecktarn, and SO digi among others. ARPAT/ACUPAT is really best in semi-arid environments like in the Southwest (or parts of Iraq and Afghanistan.) I still like Woodland, and the military still issues and uses it quite a bit, but Multicam is my current favorite for all-terrain, multi-season flexibility, and Omnipat

For the fall/winter, you're looking at Flecktarn, maybe Multicam, Swiss Alpenflage, and perhaps a few brown or dark desert patterns. You'd also be surprised at how well solid Coyote Brown will work there, too. You could do worse than your ACU, though, so don't worry too much.

They are on the way. Used to live in NY, and Spring and Summer are always nice and green, but I guess it's a little late this year with all the crummy cold weather. Guess Al Gore was a little off on the "warming" thing. :dodgy:

suggestion. if the woodland material is sorta green on the isnide, invert it (inside out).... itll do better. usmc and 10th mtn did that for opfor in the mountains, pretty effective

That's an interesting suggestion... Never thought about that... :) I guess it could be rather effective, but it seems like it would be a bit too similar to the ACU he likes so much.

well this would be more of a pea green tint if its what i';m thinking than the commercial grayish tone that is similar to the acu.....and with the acu, the base is a light gray or tan, i cant remember offhand, but the BDUs i've seen that are USGI all had a stronger pea greenish tint to the grayish underside, which would be effective in the environment. just an observation
