The Defensive specialist revelies in the task of defending the base, flag, or position. with a pack filled with gernades, mines, smoke, and even in some cases automated gun turrents. He is the leader of the fixed position defenders. this position shouldn't be taken litely. The glory may go to the attackers, but when the battles are over and your flag is the one standing, everyone, and I mean everyone, will know who to thank.

should be only taken up by an experienced player who knows a little bit about each position, especially commanding.
standard rifle, pack with storage capacity, grenade pouches, air and ammo. Maby even a side arm.
my e-mail is Spacecapes@aol.com let me know what you think, together we can get this position into the books!

Even though I absolutely hate the new position threads, this sounds like a valid idea.
It could be a sub-commander role, perhaps given to another player on the team. Not an actual commander, but someone the commander turns to for recommendations on setting up a defense.

Welcome to the forum by the way.
Yeah I use an M-16 grip, wanna fight about it?

Hmmm....Worth considering I think.....but....Gotta shoot down the auto-turret thing though.....Not safe.

I, personally, am also not a fan of smoke grenades. In my opinion, they simply serve to stall the game. If I can't see you, and you can't see me, we can't eliminate each other, and the game has become pointless.

Been thought of before. My take is that defensive roles are more of a mission, not a position. You have a mission to defend, but you still have daggers, snipers, sabres, heavy gunners, etc. to do these missions.
This is my sig. There are many like it, but this one is mine. My sig is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. My sig, without me, is useless. Without my sig, I am useless. I must type my sig true. I must spell better than my enemy who is trying to judge me. I must type before he ridicules me. I WILL... My sig and I know that what counts in this forum is not the rounds we fire, the noise of our burst, nor the splatter we make. We know that it is the hits that count. WE WILL HIT... Before the Admins, I swear this creed. My sig and myself are the defenders of my forum. We are the masters of our enemy. WE ARE THE SAVIORS OF MY PROFILE. - Tippmann Owner #pi

thank you guys for the feedback, I really apperciate the posts in the efforts. as for the turrent, a companhy has them manufactured allready, just a little expencive, the smoke bombs, as per the definition of defense, are supposed to distract, mask and cover the defenders, therefore u can't see me, u can't eliminate me, my team has longer to aquire the flag, rescure the pilot, etc. And I do agree, it would be a sub commander position with an emphasis on defense. I am working on the ideal list of equipment for the position, should have the post up later on this week

many people complain that the defense do not get enough credit, well here is your chance to change that!!!
ok ive got a partial gear list for your run of the mill Defense Specialist,
First of all a gear rig that will allow for your pods, air, not to mention a pack for all the goodies you are going to need.
In the pack suggest,
sling shot, for lauching gernades in pairs.( One spotter, one slinger)
Xtra gernades both smoke and paint.
Ammo
Camp shovel, for digging elbow holes, (while in prone position, allows your cross section to be minimized)
Deployable camo coverings, tarp like. ( for desguise)
Paper, Pen. ( for planning with your defenders)

Weapon
high fire, distance, and reliability
suggest a-5/x7 with flatline
plenty of ammo
sidearm (backup)

Tactics
defense plays on stalling your opponets, giving your attackers more time to accomplish their mission. so let the smoke gernades fly.
Deploying ambush snipers :D
molding the area for defense with shovel, equipment, and stuff around the area.

Stalling tactics, allowing attackers more time to do their stuff - sounds like a heavy rifleman, to me.

Deploying ambush snipers - need I say more?

Molding the area with shovel, equipment, and stuff - Most commercial fields will frown on this, and it's illegal in national forest land. What's that leave? Private land?

Sorry, but I stick to my previous statement. Defense is a MISSION, not a position.

I agree with Jack rock. Your mission(s) is to get the opponents flag while keeping yours. Thus making defending your flag the MISSION. As for the sub commander role, I feel it would complicate things. My team personally doesn't even go by the Spec Ops positions. We all have markers and paint and air and grenades....get my point? we are a team, we all have the same mission, get the flag and protect ours.

Please don't move or dig anything on the field.
Newbies do that nonsense all the time & (as the field maintenance guy) it drives me nuts !!!
The guys that build the fields work damned hard on them, according to an overall plan.
Undermining that work is ... ummm ... lame, at best.
Cheers !
