Question about regulators on a HPA tank
Posted 16 March 2010 - 12:11 AM
Now, I have some random no-name 48cu 3000psi HPA tank with some equally no-name regulator on it. I see quite a few companies, Ninja and Crossfire, having sales on their regulators. How much of an improvement would one of these new regulators have? Exactly, what is it that makes these brand name regulators so good?
And what is a regulator recharge rate? Why is faster better? Apparently that's the one key stat that all of these companies are striving to achieve and boasting about in their advertisements.

Recharge rate is the time it takes for the reg to dump its chamber and refill the chamber to the proper output pressure again. The faster it can do this the faster you can fire. If it has a slow recharge rate, then when firing at high speeds your shots will be less consistent, as you might be firing before the reg has fully recharged it's dump chamber. A fast recharge means no worries. Now if you are only shooting a mech tippmann, this doesn't matter much...if you are shooting an Ego, then this is very important.
The newer regs out there recharge fast and are easily rebuildable. Old regs you needed to take to a pro shop and have a certified tech work on them if they leaked or whatever. New ones you just degas the tank, remove the reg, and take off the bonnet on your own, change out hte bad oring, lube it and seal it back up. Much easier then needing an airsmith

I have been using ninja regs for most of last year and have bought a ninja tank recently. They are rock solid and Ninja paintball has awesome customer service. Plus the ninja reg are adjustable pressure by removing or adding shims. They have a youtube video with instructions on how to do this...very very simple.
You also can't go wrong with the Crossfire regs/tanks, they've been around awhile and both of these regs have super good recharge rates. Only reason I got the ninja is the adjustable pressure option. I have a Bob Long Victory and they recommend a Low Pressure output. Hope that helps!
