i was watching a video of a tourney over the weekend and i was wandering what is the field that those guys are playing on made out of? they were sliding around like a bunch of penquins across the ice. it doesnt work like that on regular grass. (my knees have the cuts to prove it.)

and also i know the rule abt a spot bigger than a quarter means youre out. but why did the ref call me out on saturday when i slid into a bunker and when i bumped into it my arm got smeared with paint and he said i was out!! the smear was multicolored and went from my elbow down almost to my wrist. is this a rule that i dont know abt or did he just make a mistake?

Its astroturf mixed with paintball pants. I have said pants and they do make sliding much easier but once its mixed with greasy astroturf from paint, its amazing.

Quarter size is the general rule of thumb but left up to descretion.

in the NPPL (what you were watching) the rules state the paint must come from a gun! You prob just had a newb ref who didn't know whats up.

Alpha Turf is one of the atrificial field turfs used in many areas. Its a sort of plastic and when combined with nylon ripstop of the pants and a layer of paint, it is slickery.

As for your "rubbing". "Rubbing is not a call out, unless he/she saw you wipe at it then they have no means of defining if you wiped at a hit or a "rubbing" One of the "cheats" is to rub a ligitimate hit into a bunker and turn a hit into a "rubbing" before the Ref can tell which it is. If the Ref has a doubt, they will usually call you out instead of letting you continue.

Hey, Ref's are people too, we make mistakes.

oh okay, maybe he thought i tried to wipe. i didnt even think of that. like i said it was a multi-colored smear from my elbow almost all the way down to my wrist so i guess that could be seen as an attempted wipe, even though there was nothing to wipe because i hadnt gotten hit. lol thanks guys

it is when your playing x ball... he has his DUMPER in the air and his gun on the ground pushing his head across the turf.... it was x-ball and we were playing a team that had just wiped 6 shots off of there snake player body when he dove. so ya it was kind of pay back but still funny as hell.

Just so you know, it doesn't just have to be a break the size of a quarter. If a ref sees the paintball break, whether it leaves a mark or not, you're out.
Team Krisis
You gas up the marker, put on the gloves, strap on the mask, and walk onto the field.. it doesn't matter that you failed a test, that your girlfriend broke up with you last night, or that you got a ticket on the way there...your world is right for the next couple hours, this is your heaven on earth... live it... love it..

How the hell could you stop me? Why in the world would you try? I go hard forever that's just how I'm designed, that's just how I was built.

hmmm, really depends on the field/type of game your playing...
im sure with professional games thats true... and with most fields...
but the quarter rule is usually just for disputes when the ref doesn't see it and they're argumentative...

Yeah, the quarter size rule is good. But I am just saying, there doesn't have to be any paint. Trust me, I've seen it happend during a tourny.

Tournament play is a different beast. If the Ref see's a player hit, the rules indicate that they call it because on a competitive level, its hits that count and not breaks. Breaks are the visual evidence of hits when a Ref witnessing a hit is not possible. Teams practice “not flinching” to hits on the odds that flinching may entice a Ref to call a suspected hit good where no reaction may let it pass.

Rec/woods ball is different in that is the quality of the play experience that’s more important and the play usually covers a larger field with fewer opportunities to have Ref’s witness a hit. The honor of the players is expected to accept a certain level of strike, quarter size, to be the telling factor. Otherwise, rules vary by field and event.

Plus the fact that rec-ballers would shoot the crap out of anyone that cheats. (I would)
