I've thought about a Galil. I just wish they were sold in shorter barrel lengths.

They are rather long. I just don't know. They also don't use AK or M16 magazines. I want something that is universal with mags.

With the old (1980s era) Galils, you could buy a mag adapter that fit into the Galil that allowed for M16/AR15 magazines. If you preferred that, I believe you can still find some of them online - but make sure they fit the new Golanis, I hear they're different from the old 1980s ones.

I have read mixed review on the mag-well adapters. Some work well, others not so. And it requires some permanent alterations. And the M16 mags look freaking RETARDED in a Galil.

.22s are prone to misfires, being a rimfire cartridge and cheap- most bricks of .22 will have at least one dud in them. For your needs, Pirate, the Russian stuff will certainly work. I still don't like it, but I have no AK/SK guns, so I'm a bit more careful. My cheap friend had probably run tens of thousands of the stuff though his guns, so he may have encountered more problems than the average shooter, but the brass failures he had were just poor quality issues, which really don't give me much confidence in the stuff- and I'm not a fan of Steel casings, from a wear and tear and reloading standpoint. But hey- as long as you're aware of the issues and are prepared to deal with them- that's cool.

I BOINKing hate .22s.
I worked at a Boy Scout Range, and after going over the safety rules literally dozens of time, you always have that one kid who gets a misfire/squibfire and decides it's a good idea to look down the barrel... It's never happened while I was on deck, but I've seen it happen from across the range, and damn, scary indeed....

I've shot over 4k 22lr rounds through my bolt action with zero problems. No duds, misfires, squids, etc It depends on your gun for the most part. At the same time, our semi-auto has a dud out of every 20 rounds. Same box of bulk federal ammo the other gun shoots though.

Yeah, I just shot a lot of .22s, some through my nice bolt action and a lot more through some semi, I think it was a remington. When you can just drop 14 rounds into that tube they go fast. Anyway, we were shooting some old wildcats first, they were ok. Some misfires, and some jams. The rifle was not that clean. Then the next morning we opened up a fresh brick of remington golden bullet and had misfires galore. However we had no misfires in my bolt, shooting 4 brands (old remington standard velocity, winchester wildcat, CCI mini-mags, and remington golden bullet). Still, if I were to go hunting with that I would buy CCI mini mags, since they are round nose and the best quality you can get.

Guys I'm thinking about an over and under for serious trap and skeet. I was browsing around and the Browning Cynergy caught my eye with its feather-light synthetic stock. Only it's 3 grand...are there any similar O/U's with synthetic stocks for less?

It's tough to find a synthetic stock O/U period. They're seen as classier guns so I guess they're generally wood.

My favorite O/U's are the Browning Citori and Beretta White Onyx. They're amazingly light weapons and they perform excellently.

Personally I use a Benelli super black eagle II for trap and skeet. I would love a Benelli super sport, but I lack $1700.

My boss was looking into a Vega O/U. He said it ran about $500. I never actually found the one he mentioned. I think it was a woody though.

Damn, 10-day on a .22 bolt action?
Man, I love my states gun laws more and more.
I can walk in, fill out the paperwork, pass the background check, and be out the door in 30 minutes.
My job is to be an asshole. I excel at the position.

Gotcha beat, Pirate. From the moment I walked in, to when I walked out, 7 minutes passed. AndI purchased a Mossberg 500 Tactical Persuader 12ga shotgun. 18.5" barrel, collapsible stock, pistol grip. Its scary!

Not bad, but I had to look around a bit. You never know what goodies await you at the gun shop

Ah. Fair enough. This was my third pawn shop and I knew EXACTLY what I was looking for. The last pawn shop had one with $425 on it. Used. I offered $350 and his response was "You may be cheap, but I know for a fact that I can sell this for $425, now take your haggling elsewhere." So I did. I got the SAME MODEL shotgun (in better condition) for $300 5 blocks down the road.
