ya ... this could be a great introductory way to get younger kids into the action of paintball .... i would think that the laser is WAAAY more accurate than a paintball though .. pretty hard to simulate the crazy paths that a paintball will fly when it leaves your barrel ... but i do like this .... i wonder what the pricetag is on it ?

It is intriguing...looks like one of the marketing display items says $300, but that may be a suggestion for a game including a certain number of players...and right now, looks like these are aimed at field owners. While that seems a little steep, it would pay for itself in a few games of paint and gas expenses, plus marker wear and tear. While I don't think it's as fun as paintball, it does offer a pretty decent alternative, and depending on the range of the laser, would make some MILSIM modifications more practical. Lasers (harness types, barrel inserted) have been used for military applications for many years.

Wonder why they chose to mount the laser in the hopper neck, instead of on the rail and center mounted, or even the barrel? Looks like the laser eye is offset over the rail from the hopper neck to facilitate aiming a bit.

The players aren't wearing special harnesses, which is convenient, but then I guess that means the laser unit must be "hit" to score and elimination. I would imagine that at least temporarily disables the "hit" unit for some period or until reset. The reset feature would eliminate wipers from playing on, unless they had another unit. The reset units at laser tag fields I have played force the "hit" player to leave the arena and reset, or reset after several minutes. One problem would be players concealing their laser units.

It's good that it can be used indoors and out, but I wonder what the range is, and how weather proof the unit is? It would be better if the unit was in a more neutral color so it didn't stand out so much, especially if it could be used for woodsball applications.

Another advantage is from a safety perspective...no goggles (no fog!), and that would help with field insurance concerns.

Overall, I think it's a pretty good idea, though I think it still needs some further development.

It is M.I.L.E.S gear for paintball markers. I wonder if it works better than the M.I.L.E.S. gear the military uses.

I'm pretty sure we've had a thread on this before.

IMO it seems impractical. It would be easier to just buy cheap laser tag guns from your local walmart and play at home.

Damned expensive though. But you can modify the power of hits, range and look of the guns.

I didn't care much for the idea myself, but I talked to a field owner that is using them on a vacant speeedball field to entertain kids and parents that aren't playing paintball. He is pleased with them, so perhaps they have some merit.

Yea this thread is pretty old. For practicing movement and such, Airsoft pistols work great. Super cheap and BB's are dirt cheap.

srry, didnt mean to set up a 2nd pb laser tag thread.. i usually do a search before i post but this time i did not..

i do agree with it not being the same.. most people will constantly hide or stay under cover.. with laser tag practice people would just run around like idiots.. but in the real game its different...

Saw it being used at OK D-Day. Looked very lame.

This is old. This system came out over a year ago and is now being marketed by tippmann. It is the predator games system. The local shop I worked at invested in 10 of these systems and they didnt work worth a damn. I don't kow about there second generation system but the first gen was horrible.

If you play your own game of paintball using Spec ops as guidelines and not as "law of position", put this in your sig.
