This may seem like a silly question but I need an answer. I have been playing for a couple years now and have gotten my one of my brothers-in-law involved to. We have a good time playing together. Now my other brother-in-law would like to play to. I think this is really cool but my mother-in-law is concerned. He was born with only one kidney and she is afraid that if he were to get shot in the kidney it might cause it to "stop working" or something like that. I don't think that would happen as long as everyone chronos. I have been shot close to that spot a dozen times and as far as I know both mine still work. Does anyone know how I can assure my mother-in-law that her son won't have kidney failure on the field?

First of all, his kidneys are under his lower back, and getting shot in the back almost never happens, unless you run away from an attack or something like that. I would say maybe if your mother in law is really serious about not letting him play, try and see if he can wear one of those back and chest protectors.

I hope that helped.

Yeah, you could have him put a pad over his kidney, I guess.

heh heh

There's not even close to enough energy in a moving paintball for any force to reach the kidney.

Compare the impact of a paintball to, say, the impact of a fist on the lower back.

The fist has not only its own mass, but the "mass" of the entire body of the fist's owner behind it to add to the force.

A paintball, on the other hand, shatters on impact; not only is the energy limited by the small mass of the paintball (and nothing else), but the energy is spread out laterally across the surface of the skin. This is why is hurst so much, but it will only ever cause surficial bruising.

That said, this surface bruising can look pretty nasty on someone's neck or hand.

Padding around the kidney's, in my opinion, will not provide any meaningful protection for the kidneys, but may provide psychological protection for the mother in law.

Wouldnt a regular pod pack pretty much give good enough protection around the kidney area? And she doesnt need to worry IMO

I get hit in the back everytime I get bunkered.

Anway your replys are basically what I have told her. She's a RN so she is a little protective anyway. I was hoping for a solid scientific way I could prove it to her. Thanks by the way for confirming what I thought was right.

A paintball cant stop a kidney. Most people only have one heart and get shot on that spot... Heart keeps working.
