You walked into a conversation. You have no idea what the context was that he was saying it in. My friends give me crap all the time about playing pump but it's all in fun and they mean no harm.

The reason no pumper could beat him is that his life is paintball. He has no job to take up time for paintball so he practices, and practices, and practices, and practices, and practices, you catch my drift.

All-in-all though. Two players with equal skill, one with semi, and one with pump. The semi will win.

Tyger will be the first to tell you he CAN'T beat Lang.

Fine. I'll throw down the gauntlet.

I could demolish Lang. Now, here's how the game would be played.

We're going to play Stock Class, we both get 100 paintballs and 5 12 grams. Both guns will be checked by a 3rd party airsmith to insure they adhere to stock class rules. It'll be on a woods field that neither of us have ever been to before. We'll be blindfolded and taken to a starting base out of firing / visual distance where the blindfolds will be removed. We get 1 minute to get our bearings, figure out where the other guy is starting, and plan a strategy. Goggles on and "go" will be within a minute. We'll play best out of 7, using only the 100 paintballs given at the beginning. He can wear anything PSP / NPPL legal as will I. Games will have a time limit of 45 minutes, with points for capturing and holding a center flag.

"But that's not fair!" No, of course it's not fair. He's not a woods player, a SC player, a limited paint player, a "lone wolf" player nor a woods guy who can play any field cold. Seeing as I can do all of the above regularly, I have all the advantages. It wouldn't even be close to a fair fight, because all the advantages would be mine. And beating him in those circumstances would be, at best, hollow. All it means is that I beat someone at my own game with every advantage given to me.

So what makes it a "fair fight" to put me (or in fact any woods style player) into an arena field with arena clothing that's ill fitting (Ever try to shop for paintball clothing when you're 6'4" and 250 pounds? Here's a hint, it's impossible!), put a marker in my hands I may not be familiar with with modes I don't know, playing a game against someone who's intimately familiar with how arena play works as that's pretty much all he does? How can anyone given every advantage in a situation NOT come out victorious? Most players who say "Oh, Tyger could never beat "PLAYER X" ever!" all heap the advantages on the "X" player. So let's put "Player X" in the woods, give them a rock-n-cock gun, and we'll play my game. Now it's "unfair" because I'm taking them out of the game they always play. But it's totally fair to reverse the situation? Ha.

In fact, playing a scenario of "me vs. Player X" it only plays into MY favor. See, all he would get out of it is a few games and no credit. But I, on the other hand, end up winning even if he plasters me. For starters, I get credit for "Stepping up" to a tourney guy. I win, and I win "Cred" for the woods players and validate everything. I lose, I still win in the forum of public opinion because I stepped up to take him on and I validate the heart of woodsball players. I would even venture to say that it's lose/lose for any tourney player to take me 1 on 1 in an arena setting to prove they're "better" than me because there's no good victory for them in the long run.

Oh, and to answer another critic, I'm better at speedball than you think I am. I just choose not to play it all the time because it gets boring after a few hours.

-Tyger
(who's wondering when the PBN kiddiez will read this, ignore or not even get the entire point of what I wrote, and go off on tangents about how I'm thinking I'm all high and mighty because they couldn't be bothered to read beyond ten words. Think for yourselves people. Or is that too hard?)

I used to like Ollie Lang. I wasnt a fanboy, but I respected him because of how far he has gone in the paintball world, but after seeing him at a field, my thoughts changed.

It was a fun day at Hollywood Sports in Bellflower, CA. I walked over to the turf speedball feild suprised to see some of the Ironmen there. Ollie Lang was there and I thought it was cool to be watching a pro player play with me being soo close.

Well, than I found out he said something not so nice about pump players. He said to another pumper that he should get another gun and stop playing like it was the 1920's. I thought so highly of him until I heard this. I guess he has just never played against a good pumper and lost.

So you respected him for making it big in paintball but because you heard him put down pumps you no longer respect him for making it big in paintball? Hey if he has made it big enough in paintball to make a living from it than maybe he knows what he is talking about and pumps do suck?

you gotta remember he started with a pump or well a mech cocker but close enough

the man has skill all pros do hell chris lasoya said almost the same comment to me at a trauma practice (i play and work for the same company Paintball Central)

pros are cool guys (especially John Tinker) but they do joke and screw around allot i mean if they all were perfect role models they couldn't kill each other on the field

and allot of pros play pump on the side i've played with ken barret before hes good hes not amazing but hes good because its not what he does all the time. even matty still plays pump sometimes and sonny lopez now plays pump most the time with the hitmen

who cares if he doesn't respect all forms of paintball neither do half of you (besides you tyger) its just a comment weather it was a joke or not just let it go.

"It only takes one ball.. doesn't matter who shot it... your still out. It doesn't matter how they did it.. your still out"

Think about it....

Anyone can beat anyone... it only takes on a ball.

I put down pumps all the time. My brother plays pump and I tease him about it on an almost hourly basis. Do I mean anything by it? No, of course not. Heck I have a phantom that sits right next to my electros. It seems you weren't there for the entire conversation. It could have been a joke, it could not have been. I think everyone is missing the REAL point in this event. And that is the kid got a free bag of paint for using a mech. :)

does it really matter that he thinks that one type of gun is bad? really? i love how everybody that jumps on the pump bandwagon thinks we're some sort of gang or the new HK. we're not. did he personally insult you because you were using a pump? of course not.

in his game, you need have the best equipment, and fastest guns available, because it gives more capability where a career is at stake.

and just because he practices 5 times a week does not make him a god. get over it. the russian legion has practice, and PT every single day, as do many other teams. people dont talk about how people in other sports are amazing because they practice every day.

pump elitism and percieved exclusivity FTL.

and worshipping pros FTL. get over it, there are players just as good as ollie, thomas taylor, nicy cuba, federov, and lasoya who dont have their faces in every magazine every month. if you really want to show support for the competitors, check out the teams. there's more heart and dedication in the teams behind the big names then every famous player combined. there are people that bust their butts every day harder than anyone else just to stay in the sport, while mr. lasoya combs his hair for the photo shoots.
It is beautiful when a brave man of the front ranks falls and dies, battling for his homeland.
Young men, fight shield to shield and never succumb to panic or miserable flight, but steel the heart in your chests with magnificence and courage. Forget your own life when you grapple with the enemy.
