Its the slow season in the lighting biz so we have a lot of time to kill at work and theres a high quality machine shop across the street from our warehouse, I figured Id see how much to cut it off. $20.00. I figured that was fair so...

Now I really want to paint this gloss black.
Who else has removed this useless piece of metal?

That chunk of metal doesn't really affect the installation of foregrips. All you need is the receiver(the nut that the bolt screws into) to be clear. It appears that he covered it up to install a rail system, but hey...still has the ability to install a foregrip should he choose to.

Should I hit it with a Sharpie or wait to get some paint?

I just did the same thing. Hacksawed it off and ground it down. I cut a weaver rail down and bolted it in front for my bipod. It is a little tight for my hand to hold the foregrip but I don't mind.

Spray it with a little bit of matte/satin black paint from a rattle can.

Not reccomended. Even as a temporary fix. Hit up BigBone and get a sweet duracoat!

Can it really be considered a Necro-Post then? The spray paint wouldn't really match the rest of the finish though...
