I am seriously considering joining a speedball team in a year or so, and have a debate. Should I buy an Invert Mini ($325, probably cheaper by the time I get enough $$), or a Smart Parts Vibe that comes with a preinstalled Blackheart board and Vision eyes ($225)? Since I am just starting competitive speedball, I am looking for something that is within the $200 to $330 range, relatively simple to maintain and clean, and performs pretty well out of the box.

The mini will perform better out of the box than the Vibe will with the add-ons.

The real advantages of the vibe are low cost and ability to use CO2 (although in competitive speedball, you won't want to).

Im gonna have to go with the Mini, plain and simple. Even with the board and eyes, it should perform just as well, if not better than the Vibe.

I have a mini and a SP-1 (vibe with a different shell) and the mini wins hands down the only real upgrade you would need is a good hopper HPA and a good barrel.

If you have the money for the mini go for it. The mini is by far more air efficient, consistent (aka accurate), faster, the stock barrel is better (I have known many people who play for months with the stock barrel with no complaints).

Like Tora said, it is hard to compare the two because one is low end (Vibe) and the other is high end (Mini).

Mini=invert=empire
Vibe=SP=Fail

;)

The mini is the better of the two markers though in all honesty.

The mini isn't really that much of a high end when you compare it to an Ego or droid though ;)

$300 can get you some decent markers. If you're set on one of these two, by all means, the Mini probably won't disappoint you. (Don't get the Vibe).

BUT, you can probably find some nice used gear in $300-$400 range, like some Vikings, Borgs, etc.

Thanks for the feedback! I'm going for the Mini. I already have HPA, but I need to get a good loader. I also have a Python kit. All I need to do is get a 'cocker threaded back ($10 not counting shipping :P), and I'll have a barrel kit for my Mini too .

I suggest this.
It's basically the same price of a mini, but is a lot better. It's already been upgraded a little so that even saves you money.

That would be perfect, but unfortunately I don't have the money right now.

Awh ya, that might be a problem. I'd still look around B/S/T when you do get the money for it though. There are some sick deals out there.

Thanks for the advice! Actually, I found an INSANE deal on craigslist, and I have the money, I might buy it.

Be careful, craigslist is notorious for scams. And, if it seems to good to be true, it probably is.

another vote here for the Mini . Only because I see so many at the local field and I have seen few issues since it's introduction ( v1 teething pains aside.) .it's light ,fast and simple with a nice feeling trigger imo.In straight semi it's easy to get a nice string going. I had the black chrome LE . it shot very good right out of the box . consistent . A bit loud with the stock barrel to me .Didn't see the point of having 3 tourney markers so I sold it to my buddy who was wanting a mini. After one game he forked over the cash . He swapped barrels and the thing is ball on ball .

Another thing to consider (at least I do) is where ya buy from and what kind of support you get after the sale . our local shop includes lifetime free repair when you purchase from them. so no worries. I also get to see the piles of markers that need service .... % of minis in that batch is pretty low , however that's not a very scientific observation. The techs all agree that the majority of issues they see with most markers of any kind is the owner attempting a repair or modification above his/her ability. In quite a few electro cases the marker never needed repair,just a fresh 9v ;) too bad some owners decide to gut their marker and break something before discovering that

best o' luck ~
