I have chosen to make this thread, because I am tired of people calling me a sniper. I personally think a sniper in paintball is kinda a facade and acts more like a specialists, (someone who gets a job done)

Specialist: "The team member who gets the job done"

The specialist role is somewhat a grand role in actions taken, but not in playing style. The whole role of specialists is someone who relies on tactics to complete a single objective. Some could be holding a particular position, assassinating a target, or killing a tank. The specialist relies on tactics over everything else, and is generally the best member of the team in terms of strategy. The specialist is closely related to the commander. They have a broad battlefield overview, and spend their time planning their next move. They play as a team, but generally do their missions alone. Other nicknames are "ghost flanker, lone wolf, phantom, etc" due to their playing style. Their equipment is generally specialized for a single task or a single playing style in each match.

Characteristics:

Specialists (like myself) may be referred as the, "Q", of the team with their zany or crazy gadgets. They poses great patience for their objective along with a mastery of stealth. Generally, they are the player who is the wettest and muddiest of the bunch after the round. If you find yourself laying in spot for entire games waiting for that ambush, or trowing through that river to get a better position, you just may well be a specialist.

What seperates them from snipers:

Snipers generally rely on their stealth and patience to achieve kills along with their increased accuracy. A specialist, on the other hand, will adapt his playing style to achieve a single objective. Instead of holding a flank in cover as their mission, they generally are charged with grabbing the flag, flanking themselves, or holding a position.

What seperates them from commanders:

Commanders are in charge of relaying the battle plan to his soldiers. A specialist, who may be as strategically inclined, achieves orders of his commander. While a specialists single action may not make a game, a small change just might win it.

I am sorry if such an idea has come up before, but I did a search and didn't find a specialist position. I find my playing style somewhat different, because I have many different load-outs depending on the round I am about to play. I always conserve paint, and find myself getting far more kills when I attempt to flank alone over grabbing a bunker and firing from afar. I also find that specialists spend a LOT of time on their stomachs in a prone position so they can crawl right behind the enemy.

I appreciate your enthusiasm and thought behind a new position. But I hate the fact that you did this. lol. Seriously, positions are guidlines on gear and responsibilities. As far as specializations go, this is unecessary.

Oh, Darn! I was just gonna suggest the "Super 1337 Snpr" position! :P
The positions might look cool, but when you're on a team, during a scenario, everyone has a job to do. So everyone is kind of like a specialist. But, "to each his own" Call yourself what you want, and do what you want. Dont let anyone stop you. ;) Also, welcome to the forum! B)

Actually, I am not a new member. I just never really posted and forgot my last screename. My scenario team started a team page so I created a new name.

While the arguement that each class is a specialist is valid, it isn't exactly what I was talking about. It is all about playing style. The weapon classes, (yes I call them weapon), are used to gain field advantage and positions. They are the meat and potatoes of the team. The hwg, (yes I call them hwg...), is used as fire suppression support. Commander dictates orders and gets an overview of the battlefield. The sniper generally picks off a few players and uses the element of surprise. The specialist, on the other hand, has a specific task that they are assigned at the beginning of the match. The term is GENERALLY used in scenario ball. In generic woodsball, I am definitely a sniper. However, whenever I go to scenario games, I am the guy who they go to when they need that piece of intel or commander assassinated. Not to mention taking out that tank.

Basically a jack of all trades and master of none :dodgy:. I've just been known as a specialist in my team and around the field for some time, and would like my own little patch. I guess now I hafeta make my own

As for my gear, it's the t68 pistol from rap4. This is because I have three general setups. The first is my lightweight accuracy layout which sports it with a tac stock, remote, red dot sight, 20 round magazine, and 10 inch barrel. The second is 16bps firepower and more weight with switching the magazine pack with a hopper attachment, e-trigger, and evolution2 force feed hopper. The last is a generic 10 round clip pistol when I either want to own little kiddies on the field, or use it as a backup marker to my ultra modified tippmann 98. As for gear, I have my ghillie's, and my swat tac vest and pads. The ghillie is generally used for more stationary sniper positions while my swat gear is more for fire support and flanking.
