Well despite whatever reason you may have heard, The Upper Pennisula blows. Stay far away.

In Sault Ste Marie (on the border to Canada in the UP (upper pennisula) we have the "Soo Locks" they connect the great lakes.. nothing special, but so many people come here during the summer just to see a freighter (500 -1000ft long freight shipping boat) pass through the locks. Why I don't know.

Personally I like to go Lansing / East Lansing.. theres the Michigan State University a square 2x2 mile campus.. that extends even further than that really. As for places to eat.. umm. I mostly just go to the Olive Garden in Okemos (just past E. Lansing). nothing special. Just a big city, as for interesting things to do.. See the Capital I suppose.

Sorry not much help, but I only really travel in michigan to just go a place that has a mall and thats basically it and just to go somewhere really.

------------------------------------

On a side note.. go to the Upper Pennisula if you feel like snow mobiling.. thats about it.

Things to do in the LP...

Outdoorsy, not much it's usually rainy/muddy so your limited to offroading (ATV, Dirtbike, 4X4's) or other activities where getting muddy wouldn't be a negative. Water's too cold for any kind of rec water activity other than fishing. Snows normally gone.

Well places that I know that have a mall atleast...

Traverse City -
East Lansing / Okemos
Saginaw
Birch Run

Grand Rapids is big,
Lansing is Big
Detroit is big
and thats really all I know, havent really explored michigan all that much.

As for weather in the UP.. snow is melted / or mostly melted, warm, sunny, too cold for water activities until like august.

It all depends on which part of Michigan you will be in. IF you are near detroit and of age, check out the casinos, they are really nice. Piston games at Auburn Hills. University parties at State(lansing) Michigan (ann arbor). Paintball at Hell Survivors (pickney). Windsor (cananda). ATV, dirt bike, hunting, fishing, freezing.

A better question is why you are travelling north into colder weather when you can travel south to nicer weather?

Nothing interesting in Michigan that I can think of. I would go for mostly outdoors activities. Nothing better that the Michigan wilderness.

Man youre coming at the wrong time of year. lol
Normally its muddy, and cold. :ghillie:

Go to Frankenmuth, its near Birch Run, so you can stop by the mall too.
Mackinac is nice, so is Traverse City.
You should go to the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn. thats an awesome place.
Ill think of some more places.
Id suggest Warren Dunes but Lots of sand...i dont know how fun that will be if its rainy and muddy.

If you were coming at the end of july id tell you to hit up my town, we have a bologna festival. >_<

Hah I might be continuing my NY SPPL Qualifier trip with going to MI then Canada and back down to MA. When you go post and let us know how it went.

If you are going to be on the western side of the state during your trip there are a couple state parks. Not sure if they will actually be open in March though. A few of them have some nice hiking trails. There is also a nature center in Benton Harbor if you like that kind of thing.

If you are looking for paintball on the weekends there are a few good fields as well. We have Hole In The Wall Paintball in Bangor, Victory Paintball in Benton Harbor, Total Control in Niles, Ball Busters in Plainwell, and a few others I can't think of at the moment.

Hopefully this helps out with planning your trip.
