If I had any more fun, I would have pee'd myself.

My only real "complaint" was the nasty weather. All I've heard for the last 6 months was how dry Georgia was....but mother nature tried to make up up for three months of rainfall in one weekend.

As a stand alone event, It was great..... compared to the last two years finals events it was incredible. What a difference a year & a venue change makes.

It wasn't perfect, but nothing in life is & it was painfully obvious that Jayson & the rest of the SPPL staff are doing everything in their power to make each event better than the last one.

The ref's were great & that's one of the first SPPL events I've played where the refs appeared to be on the same sheet of music on all of the fields. I did see a couple of calls that I would have made a little differently, but then again, I'm a self-professed rules-nazi & the type of person that watches a football game on TV and throws things at the television on 50% of the ref calls. However, it was fairly obvious that the ref staff is still working hard toward that nearly-impossible balance between "letter-of-the-law" and "letting the players play the game" (ok, let's be honest here... that's probably totally imposible, but I appreciate them trying ;) ).

As far the venue goes ..... my personal thanks to the owner of LCP Paintball, Billy Smith. I can't even begin to express how great it was to attend a venue where the players felt appreciated by the field owners. From the BBQ, to the live band, to the well run concessions, to the vendors, to the 4 compressors banging out 4500# fills all weekend (think I may have gotten a couple of 4300# ones at peak time... worst case). I don't think there were ever more than 5 people ahead of me in the air line & the one time that happened, Billy jumped in himself and started filling the tanks for players to speed things up. The pro shop was manned 24/7 (we're actually staff perched on stools outside the door, just in case you needed something), the guys in the pro shop were repairing gear for free and the concessions were well run & prices were cheap as hell. I also saw a lot of players utilizing the Smart Parts and Tippmann booths for repairs/techs & the Spec Ops booth for a dry shirt or some anti-fog. Again, great foresight on the part of SPPL and Low Counry Paintball.
Best of all, Billy was on the field every moment, making sure every detail & need was taken care of. As a player, I can't say I wanted for anything as far as the field services were concerned.

On the teams .... WOW. I need a whole separate post to go into that, but I need some sleep before going into that. I don't know about the other divisions, since we were camped by the entrance to the field, but the Masters teams we camped with were a shining example of what SPPL and paintball should be. I expect a handshake after a game, but when you finish a match and the other team comes over and acts as a 15 man pit crew to help you air/paint/gear up for your next match (Failure-to-Flatline), or comes over and gives you their extra paint so you don't have to waste time going up for a restock & then carts all your gear to your next game (Rebel Force Pirates).... now that's some incredible stuff. We also had teams like Adrenaline who basically had a handshake, a dry chair & a cold beverage for just about everyone at the field. For anyone who elected to stay dry back at their hotel at night .... you missed out on some really good times.

I'll post up more once I get some sleep & get all my muddy gear unpacked.

Outstanding event! There were definitely lots of improvements made from previous events. It wasnt perfect, but it was pretty dang good. The reffing was one of the biggest improvements. Mostly consistant and knowledgeable. Were there some mistakes made? Yes. But there always will be. Great job on the Players dinner Friday night! Great food, live band, and great people. Great job on getting vendors to show their stuff. I hope people supported them and bought lots of goods so they will come back. The fields were a blast and a challenge. They were set up with nice start boxes on each field. Great job to the field owner Billy and his team! You obviously put a lot of time into this. But most importantly, great job to the teams! What a fun event.

There will always be improvements to be made. Unfortunately Jayson does not have a large staff and some of the changes we all want take longer than we like, but they are being made. We are very fortunate to have a promoter like Jayson to lead this circuit we all love to play. I appreciate that every event I go to I see more changes in a positive direction. As long as I am having fun (which I always do at these events), and I see Jayson working hard to make things better, I will keep coming back.

Thanks again Jayson!

Will add more at a later date

The Finals Event had 3 great fields at a great venue LCP is a nice fields with a great staff

The reffing at this event in the most Part was great the reffs hand understanding of the rules. I thought that the Recon and Tippmann Fields headed by Third-I and Krazy 8 ran great and where the the best reffed fields at the Event.

The Teams....

Our first Game FTF Great game you guys realy put it to us in the first half and we came back fighting and brought the game to within 8 points (I still cant beileve we walked ovear the prop 4 times)

2nd Game GTF Corp we got slaughtered and had a tough time keaping our home flag am not usead to creaping in brush but i learned fast to help the team hold the base a little longer

3rd Game Rift Raft great game against a team that was thrown togther for the finals am glad they cam out and hope they can come back and play again i feal they will fair well with some training.

4th Game Aderline Cananda's finnest they where beating us bad and it was (so we thought) winner goes to semi's we ended up are last respawn down alor of points so I told all the guys to go out and have fun we ended up takeing most of them out and haveing a good time we probally would have faired better if this was the plan from start

Thank to Sean Scott and the Smart Corps for the gun assistance and off the field tips hope the launcher helped with the 3-Peat

Great talking to the BLC from colarado sorry that carpet idea was not allowed after I did it.

Sucide kings From Vegas great shooting the poo when you vsed black light and helped us with some good tips.

Thanks to TShield From Delta Paintball Team and Roger from D.R.O.P for comming out and helping my Team at finals

I would like to thank everyone that attended. I hope you all had a great time. We really tired to put on the best SPPL event ever. As some of you noted there will always be things that need to be fixed or improved upon and we will work to correct those. Although I would like to keep this upbeat I would like to mention that no calls where ever over turned. There were times where calls were made differently from field to field and for that some work still needs to be done to ensure that doesn't happen in the future.

What a great weekend. The reffing was hands down the best I have had in a tournament that I can remember. The vast majority of the teams had outstanding sportsmanship as well.

When I first came back to paintball after quite a layoff, I walked into the airfield movement. It was fun but did not compare to the "good ol' days" in the woods. The SPPL is exactly what I miss about those days, and I appreciate Jayson doing all he does to further this format. Let us never forget how much goes into planning all of these events. He will never make everyone happy but as players and teams we need to realize that he is doing everything for the good of the whole organization.

I have read some negative posts about prizes, reffing, etc. Please keep your comments constructive to help the league grow rather than stifle it.

Thanks again to Jayson and his staff. I'm going to go take some Ibuprofen.........

How can you honestly say that? I know for fact that curtis had NO say in the 10 points you gave GTF back and he was the head ref. So basically you took the word of GTF and one of their local ballers (who was a field ref on that field and they knew previously) and magically awarded them another 10 points (without curtis knowing)! Can't wait to hear your reply!!!!!

Actually, those 10 points were simply marked against the wrong team. It was a penalty accidentally assessed against GTF when it should have been assessed against the other team. Fortunately, Curtis had marked the players name next to the penalty (normal procedure). That player demonstrated the honor and the sportsmanship we value most by telling Jayson that it was indeed him and his team that Curtis had assessed the penalty to and therefore it was corrected. Curtis' call stood and the score sheet was simply corrected to reflect the call on the correct team.

Foz,

Curtis charged GTF Corp with a 10 point out of bounds penality that should have gone to Forest Demons Blue, Luckly Curtis wrote the name of the offending player next it on the score sheet and Forest Demons said "yes, that is our guy" so the score changed which did effect the points that were used to determine a tie breaker between F2F and GTF.

Hope that helps .... Curt

I think I remember the call-I assessed the penalty to the red team (top half of the score sheet) and wrote the players name in the margin. If it should have been assessed to the blue/yellow team and it sounds like I made a mistake. Then all that really needed to happen was to move the penalty to the correct team and re-add the score. I would not need to be involved and actually this is the first I heard or it.

After each game I tried to be avaible for team captains, some times and especially on a close games we would double check the score together. I am sorry I missed one.

Sadly at times I was under intense pressure from a few players to change calls and scores. Verbal intimidation, character assaults and even physical threats were used to sway my decisions. I did not change any scores or calls!!!!

I know there was some missed calls, I know there were some inconsistence calls and I know every call I made PERTURBED off half the players on the field. But here is the thing. When a player steps on to the field, he/she agrees to abide by the rules, he agrees to accept the calls and directions of the Referees. (even if they are wrong)

If a player dosenít like a rule or how the game is played then levy to have it changed for next year. But this year is done.
Congratulations to all the winners and sportsman.

To all the Lo Country Refs, you have my deepest thanks for your time and efforts
To the Black and Blue Crew, way to step up and help, Thank you!
To, Lo, Krazy, Scott and Third I It has been my honor to work with you.

Curtis

That is correct. We were approached by GTF and they provided the name of a player assigned to that penalty. I asked that player on our team if he did in fact go out of bounds and he said he did. Simple mistake that was caught and verified by our player. These are the kind of mistakes that can happen in the midst of "battle". I'm just glad we are in a league where people will step up and be honest about that type of situation.

From the Smart Corps Factory Team, we would like to thank everyone out there. We had a blast and heck, we even lost a few games.

Billy Smith - You are the man. I will be returning to some of your events in the future and you have a great field that is fun to play at. Great atmosphere as well. It could use some more bunkers on some fields... cough cough...

LCP Army - Thanks for stepping up to help out with the reffing for the semis and finals. You guys did not have to do that and we thank you guys big time. That extra time could have spent with family, but you guys instead chose to step in to ref. We appreciate that. The sheer amount of compeition that was in the Elite division warranted having a lot more experienced refs on the field. Thanks for the hoppers as well. I did return them to your shed where you guys hang out, but no one was there. I hope you guys found them!

Jayson - Fun event as always as we look for to next year (and also the new rule book).

Forest Fire - The very first team to serve up a loss against the Smart Corps Factory Team. When Matt blew through a tape and shot all of us out (and your swing guys helped out), that set the tone for the rest of the game. Congrats on whooping us (even if it was by only a few points)

Forest Demons - You guys came at us hard and wanted it. You served up our second loss. Losing to both you guys and forest fire will make me re-think some things on the team for next year. You guys played awesome and I look forward to playing against you guys again.

Tippmann - Pat and Scott... Thanks for all the help and tools :P

Failure to Flatline - What can I say? You guys just friggin rock!! They got knocked out and they let us borrow their rocket launcher, which was cruicial in helping us win against Forest Demons in the finals. You guys were always there to help in anyway we needed and you guys have improved your play big time. I look forward to seeing you guys more nect year!

Adrenaline Eh - Damn Canadians.. Thanks for the Blue and the friendship. I have had a blast hanging out with you guys and girls a lot in the past 4-5 weeks and I am sure to see a lot more of you guys next year as well. Get out of Canada and come play in the states more!

no calls over turned huh?? well, im going to have to call shenanigans on that. maybe this particular call wasn't over turned by you but defiantly by some one relatively high up in your staff, atleast higher then Curtis. the reason i say that is cuz, while chronoing my gun before a game, i happen to be standing next to a GTF game. who they where playing, i do not know. anyways. while i was there. a player named Skip told Curtis " i aint no boy" while taking off his gear, as if he were challenging him to fight. Curtis told Skip's team mate that he could no longer play in the event. at that point Skip then told Curtis "F**k you fat boy. i'll kick your F**king butt" then flinched at hit like he was going to hit him. at this time Curtis then told him that he would have to leave the LCP facility and that GTF would have to play a man down for the remainder of the entire tournament.. not the match, but the tournament.. Skip was dragged off the field by his team mate the, in while doing so he was yelling curse words and threatening Curtis and other refs. i also challenge anyone who doubts my story to ask any member of XF. cuz half there team whitenessed all this too, as they were staging to play that field next.
i could not believe what i was seeing. ive been to lots of events, and i had never seen anyone take such a position against a ref. i thought surely. this cat was outta here, but much to my dismay. i seen Skip getting air, and gearing up for the finals games, and when i watched GTF play XF in the battle for 2nd place. iill be d*mn*d if GTF didnt have 10 players on this field, and ill even do you one better.. Skip was one of them. at that moment, i was ashamed to be part of this league. i had posed the question to myself. "why in the h*ll do any of us work so on sportsmanship, and staying calm, and playing stand up, fair paintball. only to have another player, whos team consequently won second place, act this way with NO repercussions. what happened to ill side with my refs., or my refs word will always stand. mind you, we arent talking about a 1st year ref either. this is Curtis. your best ref in my opinion. and who cares what call was made on the field. who cares what penalties he might have took during the game. when we was escorted off the field, and then threatening a head ref with physical violence. that my friends is a whole new set of downs. forget what happened on the field. that by itself is enough to have any player in this league banned from the SPPL for ever. so why did that not happen? why was skip allowed to play? who over turned Curtis's decision to kick him out and them play a man down?
i hate to call a guy out, but it did happen, and at some point everyone has to take accountability for their own actions, and if not the player. surely their capt. must. if i was the GTF capt., considering all that had occurred, i would be to guilt stricken to even continuing to play, let alone have won second place. i would have expect some one to come up to me and say "sir. you took second place from teams who were way more deserving, teams who had not incurred a single penalty. instead you won with player/ s who have a p*ss poor attitude. this entire league is supposed to be based on sportsmanship and fair play, and you sir. by allowing a player of that caliber to continue on your team leaves you with neither"
Jason.. these are your rules. set in place and enforced by your people. if they are to stand in the rule books, then they must apply to all of us, and in this situation it was very clear to me that the rules did not apply to GTF and defiantly not to Skip.
