With all the "survival" threads and the level of "doom and gloom" they entail, time for some less "serious" threads. I recall Legs mentioning this idea a while back. It was brilliant. Why not start here? Post up you favorite sammiches, discuss various accoutrements, and debate acceptable side pairings, from kettle cooked potato chips to tater wedges to pasta salads.

So, how bout those Cuban sammiches? Ham, Pork, Swiss, pickles mustard, press grilled on a crusty roll, and next to no chance in hell of picking up at a NY deli. Not offensive enough to Muslims or something. :P

Outside of the generic steak and cheese sub...my favoeites are Monte Cristo (ham, turkey, Swiss on with french toast as the bread, with confectionary sugar on top.)

And this one the local sub shop makes, Buffalo Pastrami. Take lean pastrami, grill it and add buffalo sauce and clue cheese. So greasy it is to die for.

For sides mozzarella sticks always work. Love curly fries. LoVE onion rings, just not the gas I produce after from them.

Monte Cristos are win. And I think I'd kick a baby in the head for one of those Buffalo Pastrami subs.

We have a local place owned by a Greek gent, and I can't decide whether the Greek sub (Genoa Salami, steak, and cheese) or the Mexican (Steak, Bacon, Ham, cheese) are my favorite. And the Greek sauce is just killer.

And of course, no one can forget Italian sausage, shredded Italian blend cheese, peppers, and onions.

My new favorite is an Italian Beef Sandwich. Saw these on a food network show, and they posted a crock pot version. The house smells wonderful when you get home from work. A 3 lb rump roast, some italian seasonings, a couple of cans of beef broth, a couple of crusty baguettes, some provolone cheese, and I'm on my way to heaven. You break up the beef after it's cooked in the crock pot all day, layer it a baguette, drizzle with some broth, lay on some cheese, add a cup of au jus on the side for dipping, and you're set with the basics. You can add broiled mushrooms, grilled peppers and/or onions, maybe some horseradish sauce for a little variety and kick. Goes great great with kettle chips or french fries, and maybe a dill pickle spear. I like to chase it all down with an ice cold bottle of beer.

Picture below is Chicago style, without provolone.

Well...I'm personally a subway fan, not of most of their sandwiches, but the breakfast sandwich is incredible. Footlong flatbread with egg, steak, cheese, peppers, onions, jalapenos, tommatoes, hotsauce and ranch.

One of my favorites is a roast beef and jack cheese sub on a dutch crunch roll, lettuce, tomato, mayo, and a garlic pesto spread...a North Beach San Francisco favorite.

These aren't particularly "favorite" sandwiches, as I'm REALLY moody with what my favorite sandwich would be.
These are just some I made at work when it was slow and I was hungry/bored.

First up, Breakfast!
French Toast, Provolone Cheese, Fried Egg, and of course Bacon!
Posted Image

Now, a "classic" grilled cheese. And by classic, I mean pretty much the opposite.
Cheddar, Bacon, Provolone, Bacon, Pepper Jack, Bacon, American. And the Parmesan Crust, just to make it crispy and delicious.
Posted Image

Another classic, the Reuben. But, I didn't have any corned beef. So what did I use? If you guessed Bacon, you win bacon!
Thousand Island (we don't have Russian at work), Sauerkraut, and BACON! Hoooray bacon!

Wheat bread, turkey, american cheese, lettuce, ranch, parmesan, and black olives. Throw the whole thing in the toaster for a bit.

Delicious
