Thanks.

It's not solar powered, but we do have a fan (that odd bulge over the driver/passenger area houses a fan). Works pretty well, not that it was needed on that day (cold and rainy).

For turrets on a tank i was thinking an sp-1 with four metadyne undermounts or other similar picatinny mounted launcher connected to it. then each trigger would have a string wrapped around it and connected around the back of the marker. so when you pull the string you fire four rockets and you the sp-1 marker for ground players. im guessing tank hunters could carry this too. i dont know if the undermount launchers work upside down though.

I think 4 launchers is overkill. You only need one rocket to tag out another tank / tag out a building/bunker, and since both are fairly large (and the building doesn't move), it's not really a requirement.

However, metadynes will work from any angle, even upside down.

it's an interesting idea...
expensive but interesting... (that's about $1800 or so, retail.)

i wouldn't do that... but then i'd want to put i will be putting 3" barrels on and fire f-bombs as artillery/mortars instead.

it'd be intimidating to see that roll onto the field though.

Hey what are people's opinions of using smaller, slightly faster (like maby top speed 15-20 MPH) vehicles, like ATV/dirtbike mounted squads (open, but fast, no extra guns, but storage space for extra paint/heavier weapons) or small off road go karts (driver and gunner, maby with some smoke grenades for a quick escape, and something like a double trouble, full auto electro with a GIANT hopper, or a air cannon as the mounted passenger gun)? I think having a squad of fast, light vehicles would be fun, and be good in a larger scenario as a stratigic advantage (being able to quickly get afew players plus supplies across the field quick with some mobile support)
"A bad day of paintball is one where I never get hit. If I don't look like I got date-raped by an octopus by the end of the day, thats a bad thing."

So you want to know why it's called an A5?

If I could assemble a new regulator for a paintball gun, I could build a liver. How hard could it be?

i like the idea of a fast attack vehicle but most fields only allow walking speeds for armor.

it's an issue of inertia (and object in motion tends to stay in motion) and overcoming it (don't run me over bro!).

coupled with the fact that a ball moving at safety threshold of 300fps is traveling at 204mph (go ahead and check my math; (300fps*60 [= fpm]*60 [= fph]) / 5280 = 204.545mph) from a platform moving an additional 15-20mph exceeds the safety threshold for safe paintball play. (some of the locations up here allow 300fps; i don't play at those levels, but they allow it.)

now add to this the general instability of an ATV which is designed for one rider and tips backward easily. i'd say it equates to dangerous.

if there was no gunner and you had to stop to fire, i could see doing it on a private field.

incidentally, there was an ATV based tank at SG38. he couldn't move quickly, had to put wight plates on his front rack so he didn't tip over, and because my job was to reduce his play time to next to nothing (the goal was 45sec. per spawn cycle) they only used it for about an hour and abandoned it as a bunker in their backfield by lunch time the first day.

the kart types don't tend to work very well because of their low stance not being able to get over the tops of bunkers.

what does work?

The Walkons' "Black Sunshine" is a heavily modified Ford Bronco, the Moongobbie Brothers' "MB1" is a ford ranger chassis, CoTac has a member who is building one out of a Willys jeep postal van (drives on the wrong side and everything), and (barring the destroyed V8 in it's dog house and awaiting conversion; i bought it for $1) my team, the Flashpoint Harriers, has "DREADNOUGHT" which is a 1ton van chassis.

most of the Dday armor uses road vehicle chassis of some type.

if you're worried about cost: an ATV costs about $4k; a used 4x4 can be found for around $1500.

something to think about.

I understand this is a necropost, but I've been gone for a while...

I have a '93 Jeep Cherokee Country 4WD in the shop, and I'm looking for something new. I'm strongly considering making the jeep into an APC, but I haven't figured out how I want to do it yet. Any thoughts?

i'm to the point where i'm suggesting matt tracks for everything.

i've been noticing that armor does a lot of environmental damage to the fields they run on.

i will also suggest removing ALL the window glass and replacing it with netting. you won't be able to keep the glass clear anyway.

other than that, pop a hole in the top and call it a turret.
