16inches if u have a bit of porting in the front but over 16 inches is a waste. if u just want an accurate barrel get a 14 inch if your a "sniper" get a 16 inch it will lessen noise a bit and could be a tiny bit more accurate. as a sniper you dont need to worry about gas consumption so please people dont bring the gas usage up in a sniper forum

Their good enough barrels. Some people swear that straight rifling works by somehow controlling the spin of a paintball though I can't really say that it will make it any better. As long the the barrel is smooth where it counts it should work just about as well as everything else.

One thing to remember is how much porting the barrel has. Porting will quiet the shot, but you lose efficiency. So like, if you have a 18 inch barrel, but it has 4 inches of porting, you effectively have a 14 inch barrel

Yahoo or google your question.(sorry i don't have a link) Research has been done plenty of times. They all will say 10-14 inches is the best. Anything more creates friction and you lose eficentcy. Anything less the ball is not get the full power of air behind it. Porting also you have to remember changes effective legnth. A 16 inch barrel with porting 3 inches from muzzle is only 13" effective. But it also has 3" of friction. So it would use more air than the 13 inch barrel. The porting does however make a barrel quieter. So you need to decide whitch combination ( air eficientcy/noise) is best for you. What makes a barrel accurate is, how it is made, what it is made out of(the brand more less), your guns velosity consistency and paint to bore match.

Pretty much like everyone says, after 14 inches, the extra length is just a waste

I personally like 8-12" barrels. As long as you have a good ball to bore match, it doesn't really matter what length, as long as it is in between 8-16". Though from what I've noticed, there is no difference between 14 and 16 inch barrels. They don't shoot farther than each other, so there's really no point to me to have it any longer than absolutly neccisary. All it does is give you a larger profile, and add more (ever so little) weight.

If you play in the bushes a lot a longer barrel WILL help you a little. If your always in the brush, an 18" barrel will allow you to put more brush in between you and your opponent. But you have to ask yourself, is it worth it? What if you have to go to a bunker? Then what? If your ALWAYS in the shrubs, go ahead get the 23 incher, just remember you will loose some efficiency.

An 18+ inch barrel doesn't help you. It's all in your head. All it does is cut down your efficiency, and make you a larger target when you're not (always) in the brush. Even still, if you are always in the brush, it still makes you a larger target. Think about it, your barrel is 18 inches, then you add your body height, lets say 60 inches more (5 ft). You'll need at least 6 feet of area to lay down in. Sure, it doesn't sound like a whole lot when you're playing in multiple acres, but what if you have to move? Running/moving through the woods can be hard enough with just you, not to mention adding another foot and a half higher, or side to side. You may look cool, but that's about all it's good for, looks.

Anything longer than 14-16 inches is a waste, and can cause a problem. And don't even think about trying to move to that bunker, or that thick brush, if they aren't directly in front of you, you're going to have a hard time moving that 18 inch barrel around in that thick brush side to side. You'd have to probably point your barrel up, turn, then bring it right back down to aim. That's taking a lot of extra time, and letting people know where you are (by noticing the movement in the brush/big person shaped bush turning all about).

The longest barrel you would want is a 14 inch one. Anything over that is a waste of air and won't help you that much.
