Ok, so if you are in the military for 20 years, you get retirement pentions and whatnot right?
Does that only count for active service? Like, if I had 12 years active service, and 8 inactive, would that count as my 20 years?
Reason I ask is because I am thinking of joining, well, I am joining for sure, but staying in for about 4 years, going inactive to go to school to get my degree, than go active again so I can become an officer.
And this matters to me, because I am sorta planning my retirement now, and this has to do with it.

Other retirements, Active duty counts as Government service so you can retire from the military get a Federal job (like a postman) and roll your active duty in to that retirement as well. Basically you work 20years with teh Postal service but get a 40 year retirement thanks to active duty time.

NG and AR. Twenty good years gets you a retirement with a hitch. You don't get a retirement check till you are 60-65 (depending on what options you choose at retirement) but you automatically qualify for all other retiremnet bennies.

miltiary does count if you did under 20 years toward civilian government retirement but you have to buy your military time back. if you have over 20 years you have to start over if you go civil service.

Ok, haven't been here in a while. Yah, I finally figured out what I'm gonna do. I'm gonna go to college, then join the army and become a officer and am going to try for the airborne. So would I still have to go to OCS if I go to college? Also if I have to go to OCS do I go the paratrooper training first or after OCS?

I'm trying to get into Marine Corps OCS. I just took my ASVAB and got an 85 on it, now I'm just waiting for the freaking MEPS to clear me medically so I can do my PFT. I'm hoping to do an MOS in either Amphibious or Recon.

Haha, every recruit wants to be recon, it's the best of the best, usually you have to serve in the corp for a while before you go recon. Atleast that's what I've been told, but hey i'm not an expert.

each school usually has a few slots for different schools such as air assault and airborne for summer training.

If you're going to college take ROTC, make them pay for your college, get a fat stipend, and skip OCS (because its ROTC). Then you go to LDAC, get your score and if you did good enough try to go airborne.

You dont need OCS if you're in college, ROTC is much more effiecent.

I got tested for Canadian Aircrew vision test to become a pilot and my eye doctor said i have a small eye muscle inbalance that doesn't affect depth preception or my eyes in genral but she was writing it down on the sheet and saying it wasn't an issue beside it. I have to go back for another eye test and I want to bring up my results that she wrote down before and question them because i don't want it to be an issue and i don't understand how something like this was found when i did the same test a month ago and i was fine. Does anybody know if this will be a problem for me/ if i should ask about it next visit so it doesn't screw me over.

It could be that they wanted to document it now, so later it can not be blamed on any type of training you go thru. I know in the US military if its documented before you join you can't use it for a disability claim later. they just want to know any existing problem. I would ask about it, you have nothing to lose.

May God have mercy upon my enemies, because I won't!

Can I still go to the army? I haven't used an inhlaler since I was 14, and my hips started popping real bad last year, but I'm going see a specialist, could I still make it thru MEPS?

I'm going to college next year and I'm not sure whether I shld do ROTC or go into the Air Force Reserves. Does ROTC pay anything towards your college tuition? How often do the reserves get called out? I don't want to be in the middle of school and get called out and not be able to finish. thanks for the info
