As far as I am concerned. the old school WWII M1A1 Carbine is my most ideal weapon (preferably with an extended clip) if you can get your hands on one. THey are lightweight, allowing you to be mobile, extremely accurate, and pack a decent amount of damage. As far as where to stay, I would try to get as far from any urban areas as possible. Possibly a storm shelter with a thick door? Oh and also, idk if anyone has thought of this, maybe some reloading equipment and lots of gun oil. THe last thing you need when your getting charged is for your gun to jam. Just my thoughts on this subject.

They're fairly low power all things considered.

And the ammunition is esoteric.

Seriously, for anything (fictional zombies, criminals that break in, or any other scenario requiring more weaponry than a handgun), your better off with an AK. Or an AR15 if you really want the lightweight.

Too many people reading Max Brooks.

I'd rather have a .30/30 lever gun to a M1 Carbine.

I'd rather have almost any rifle instead of the M1 carbine. It doesn't offer a whole lot of advantage, and it has plenty of downsides.

1. No, you shouldn't. He has a lot of bad information.

2. See my post mentioning the "improvised silencer."

What I don't get is why all the carbine fans completely overlook the SKS. It's basically the same gun.....but usable.

If I had the money and space, I'd grab an M1 Carbine just for historical, fun value.

That's it.

It has a well documented history with the .30 round not being powerful enough, when compared to other rifle rounds.

The .30 carbine isn't even really a rifle round (well, it is, but only because there's only one firearm to my knowledge that used it).

In comparison ballistics wise, it's basically a pistol round/smg round.

That said, for a SMG, I'd rather have a design in 9mm or .45 for ammunition commonality.
