I would say don't go all out and buy a $2000 ego, but still get a nice gun. I would probably pick the invert mini because I like it's compact size and over all feel.

Thats why I bought one. I've used Shockers that were a little 'better' in some areas, but the size and feel of the Mini made up for it. Plus Its finally breaking in...

Here's my personal recommendations for mid-ranges:

Invert Mini-Very light and tight, and still a very nice gun. The gas-thru grip is an excellent touch. However, some think they're TOO small, and the gas-thru grip means you can't put a drop on it.

Proto Matrix Rail-Very nice overall gun, and very cheap now as well. Excellent out of the box, and doesn't need many upgrades. Stock frame isn't great, but the UL frame upgrade is awesome.

Etek Ego-In terms of performance, you're getting an '07 Ego for half the price. Say what you will, the Etek is just as fast, light, consistent and efficient as any other Ego. It doesn't have the LCD screen, and different internals, but, in terms of performance, it's still as good as a regular Ego. OK, the full Ego may be a little faster, but they're both faster then almost any hopper. If 28 BPS isn't enough for you, you need to practice.

Used Proto/Dye Matrix '06/'07: Not a whole lot of difference between any of these guns in terms of performance, but they're all going in the $400-$600 range now. The fact that they were $1200 not very long ago speaks about how good they are.

Bob Long Vice/Protoge: They're Timmies. Simple and effective, I'd definitely recommend them. Ego performance, budget price tag.

Used Intimidators: See points for the used Matrixes.

Used Cyborg: My personal choice. The 'Borg is one of the fastest and the most efficient gun out there.

To defend my marker, I will say that drops shouldnt be a big deal. Drops raise your marker and that messes with so many parts of your form. If your still worried about it being too long though, get a small tank and some shims and you wont haev to worry about anything. I'm 5'9'' and use a 68/30 with no problems.

Old PMRs with UL's are going for cheap.

What's the difference between the original Fusion and the new F8?

One more thing, minis are really small. If you have big hands it will be hard adjusting, if possible.

If you're talking to me, I have. I've fired one, even used it in a game. No doubt, it's a fine marker. But my fingers had trouble finding the trigger. My hand extended past the foregrip it was so small. Kinda cool though.

Since this is similar to a thread I wanted to post, i'll ask this here. If I have the money for an F8, should I get the older V2 and upgrade, or just go for the F8?

I know, I don't think it's a downside personally, but some people just prefer drops.

Yes. But it's not a big difference. The Protege and the F8 will perform basically identically. The Protege will get a *slightly* higher top speed and hold resale value better, but the Fusion's a little cheaper to start. The Mini is as fast and efficient as either, but doesn't hold value well and some people find it too tiny.
